Good quality Pedigree here but again desperately quiet on our Sunday afternoon visit. Beer at a nice temperature so stopped for two!

Had a lovely evening watch a folk band last night .the pub it's self is very charming with a great choice of beers and ciders. The staff and think he was the landlord all seemed very nice and friendly. The room upstairs for music was excellent apart from the seats are uncomfortable after a bit . But all in all a most enjoyable evening

"The Old Kings Head" was recommended to me when I was planning the Belper 18 Plus reunion in June, 2018. I went on a reccie one afternoon and found the pub lovely. It's sad to say that there are still some pubs in the world where single women alone would feel uncomfortable but not "The Old Kings Head". The landlady was very friendly and helpful and a couple of other people in the bar struck up a friendly conversation with me.
On the afternoon of the reunion I called in to confirm that we would be there that evening and, not expecting much, asked if there would be any chance of a plate of sandwiches in the evening. The answer was "yes" and when we turned up in the evening we were presented with a huge plate of assorted sandwiches and ditto of sausage rolls (at a very reasonable price!).
If you like fashionable, modern pubs with loud music and no atmosphere, "The Old King's Head" is probably not for you but if you want a friendly "proper" pub this is it.

This is a great pub, always welcoming. Every time I have visited the service has been friendly (and usually very prompt). One caveat is that I've never tried the food. I really like the upstairs meeting rooms (one large, the other more intimate, both flexible).
Unfortunately because of the geography, parking next to the building can be a near-nightmare. However, if you can walk just 2 minutes, there is plenty of parking on nearby Campbell Street. Wheelchairs would get in for the ground floor with no problem, but the stairs to the upper floor are steep and there's no lift I'm aware of (be fair, the building is 400 years old !).
I would definitely go again, whether for business or not; it's never disappointed.

I attended a Christmas Party here back in 2015 in the upstairs function room and thought at the time what a great pub it is - lots of character, friendly people and a wide range of real ales.
In April this year I reached 60 years of age and decided to have a 'Birthday Bash' party.
Having looked at other venues in the Belper area I remembered this pub and after a chat with Bev, the landlady, booked the upstairs room. Originally I'd planned to do the catering myself with help (lots!) from my girlfriend. However, after some discussion we decided to hand over all the responsibility to Bev who I must say, provided one of the best buffets I've ever had for the 60+ guests who came.
There were many positive comments about the quality and variety of the food.
I booked a band and disco directly myself and the upstairs function room with its separate bar proved ideal in terms of the space we needed.
Overall, I was very pleased with how well the event ran and would like to thank Bev & Michael who own and run this pub for their great service. Musn't forget Amy who ran the bar upstairs - Thank you also.

Well we turned up here as we would normally do our music session at the Angels just up the road whichs was closed for Easter Sunday. Got there at 14:30 and played our hearts out for the best part of 5 hours. Thank you for the reception by the locals and landlady. As a Marstons establishment we were - as real ale officianados and CAMRA members - concerned about what we we were about to receive. No kidding guys this was one of the finest pints of Pedigree in many a year. Nice pub, nice atmosphere with a real comfortable atmosphere..

Visited here on several occasion, the lager and cider is probably the worst in Belper (4 of us voted on this) Apparently the Landlord is only interested in looking after his real ale drinkers, which he does very well. His wife is alot more cheery, but he sadly is not. Thought I was miserable loL!

Lived in Belper for 15 years but first time visited nice old pub with lots of atmosphere like a pub should have long may it keep going

What a miserable place . I had been here previously but thought hey give it another chance . Well I was right in the first place . No please no thank you . What a rude man behind the bar . Tables were so sticky our glasses stuck to them . Never again shall we waste our hard earned money in there
