Went for a tour into the cavern that is dramatically placed by the foot of the peak of Mam tor. Richard was our lovely, friendly tour guide into the caverns with their impressive geology and beautiful Blue John crystal, would recommend!

We travelled as a family of 4 + dog. George's knowledge of the history of the caves and mining was fantastic and entertaining. The caves themselves are superb, definitely worth a visit.
As mentioned by others, there are lots of steps, but don't let that put you off.

Really good tour of the Cavern. Dog friendly was a bonus so our 2 dogs came down with us at no charge. Very knowledgeable tour guide (George) was able to answer all questions and gave a very informative tour of the Cavern. Steps are not too bad as long as you are relatively fit.

We had an amazing time and experience. Nigel was a great guide, that was full of knowledge and humour.
Some parts as to be expected are low and slippery! Make sure you have well gripped and comfortable shoes.

We visited yesterday and I have to say that it was absolutely brilliant. Our guide George was anmazing and a great guide, fully engaging with all of the people on the tour despite all ages. His knowledge was exceptional!! Would definitely recommend a visit if you haven’t been before.

Great tour and great guide. Think his name was Chris (short grey hair). Very informative. I'd done Poole and Peak cavern and this was definitely the best. Really interesting and amazing to see all the fossils. Cafe lovely too. Cam back next day for a coffee after Mam Tor walk.

really disappointed.. the guide ( chap with a beard) was very impatient and did not wait for the back of the party to catch up before his 'talk' so we missed almost all the information ! he 'slow shamed' about half a dozen adults and several young children on the tour, to the point where one of our party felt intimidated and compelled to return with one of the children. The guide was very brusque and embarrassed us suggesting we were spoiling the trip for others as they would be stood around getting cold ?
we had paid for 4 adults and it was a lot of money to be insulted and made to feel unwelcome. The caves themselves were amazing but we had no information around this as we were 'too slow' on the way out the bald chap was very friendly and said he welcomed all parties no matter how slow or if children were present. shame we didn't get him !

We had a fabulous day at Blue John Cavern. Our guide George was very helpful, friendly , amusing at times and we really enjoyed the tour with him . We will recommend the tour to all our friends . Thank you for tge experience George . Lovely to meet you . I bought a beautiful Blue John ring in the shop too . Well done to all of the lovely staff . Xxx

We had a guided tour of the tavern where we learnt about life as a lead miner. Our tour guide Nigel pointed out items of interest as we progressed through the cavern. Our granddaughter has an interest in rocks, minerals and fossils which were pointed out as we went along. Nigel brought an excellent mixture of humour and interest to our visit.

Hi
Thinking of visiting the caverns, are there any other play area or parks near by? It's a long drive just to do this. Will have a 4 year old with us and a dog.

Hi, I would like to visit caverns; however, I do not want any tours, I want to just walk around on my own. I do not want tours, as my spoken English understanding is not great, and to be honest I find tours very boring. I am ready to pay the full price, but want to be just on my own. Is it possible? If not, can you suggest any similar place where this could be possible?

For stalactites and interesting colours Pooles Cavern in Buxton is better than the Castleton caves.

Without sounding patronising, it's a set of caverns with some narrow walkways. The height of the majority of the caverns are something to behold. Don't let the first few steps deter from a fab experience. Good luck

it says on the website it's closed for winter but on country file it says open all year round. are you closed?

We are open every day except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day (weather permitting)
WINTER OPENING HOURS CURRENTLY NOW IN OPERATION FROM 19th NOVEMBER 2017 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE - TOURS START AT 10am AND LAST TOUR WILL BE AT 3.00pm (no new tickets sold after 3.00pm)

Sensible shoes, it can be slippery in places. We were there in June and the weather was chilly and rainy. We were wearing jackets and long pants - perfect for the caves tour. Well worth the visit, very interesting
