Visited the Sutton Bank National Park with my family and was not disappointed!!
Beautiful well kept park and dog friendly for our four legged family member which was fantastic!
Car park was pay and display and costs £5.50 for 2hrs+. The cafe was clean and tidy and staff members were friendly and very accommodating and dogs are welcome inside and in the outside seating area. Plenty of refreshments to have if you work up an appetite from walking around the park or to build up the energy before.
The views around the park are spectacular and definately worth the visit if you love nature and being outdoors.
Photos of the views will never do the park justice as to see them in person words cannot describe!
Your four legged friends have plenty of pathways to venture with you as long as they are well behaved and on leads at all times.
I would highly recommend adding this to the list of areas to see whilst travelling in this part of Yorkshire!!

Outstanding views from the appropriate points. We'll worth a visit if you're in the area. You can hire bikes as well which is a great way to tour the tracks. Plenty of parking next to the visitor centre.
The kids enjoyed their ice cream milkshakes but the people serving could barely crack a smile. I don't know why they have to be so miserable, especially in what's obviously a touristy area. If I was the manager I would ask them to be a bit more cheerful. They clearly care about the business as the menu looked really nice. Seen a few other comments on here about it as well.

Wonderful National Park that we came upon by chance on our way back to York . Plenty of parking and great facilities for anyone with mobility issues as mobility scooters are available to use on the well laid out paths . The cafe was nice too , if a little pricy £4:95 for a tuna sandwich and £4,75 for a ice cream milk shake. The young lady who served us was very friendly and helpful . There is a nice visitors centre with some exhibitions and an information desk and small shop .
A volunteer told us about the walk to see the glorious view , reputed to be one of the best in England . It’s about 15-20 minutes walk from the visitors centre . There is a pay and display car park - accepts card payments only .

Did a ride on the paradise trail today which was fantastic then stopped for breakfast and have to say that breakfast for almost £10 was shocking value for money we will be back to do the trail but not the cafe

Called for lunch in Thirsk and drove up to Sutton Bank. Reasonable price car park £2,70 for two hours. Nice setting and lots of walks. Sutton Bank has stunning views. Nice shops and sitting out areas. Well worth a visit. Beware if driving up Sutton Bank it is very steep.

Called to suttonbank today was disappointed in the cafe menu very limited asked for cheese toastie there was hardly any cheese in it and while we were eating a couple brought in a dog and it was be petted by one of the assistants not very hygienic!
Then went to the disabled toilet and found the toilet it's self was small and the rails are not in the right positions and found it very hard to get off the toilet couldn't even get my husband in to help as the door locks and I had the key in future I will get my husband to come in with me so not a very good experience

Cafe very disappointing, limited options available from the menu, chicken goujons were just cheap nuggets & a luxury toastie on white bloomer bread arrived with sliced wholemeal bread which rather ruined it, staff seemed unbothered. Would be better to be honest, cheap and cheerful than market themselves as something more special and disappoint.

Perfect base for any walks to start from. Well stocked shop with some of the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff I’ve ever come across. Great advice on suitability of walks for your needs - and and supplies you might be missing.
There are free car parks near if you don’t want to pay (but they do use the money as upkeep for the site).

Our first ever visit to an amazing area and we will definitely be back!
Jill, in the Visitor Centre, gave us so much help and advice about the local area.
It is an absolute haven for walking, with a multitude of paths.
A first class visitor centre; well sign posted, lots of (reasonably priced) parking, a great shop, a cool cafe, toilets and plenty of seating for picnics.
Good place to break up a trip to the North York Moors, the east coast but definitely warrants an outing to in itself.
Highly recommended :-)

Great place to stop and refresh yourself en route or to take in one of the many trails around the area. Centre is very informative with information. You are able to hire bikes or just walk on foot.
We chose to do the white horse walk to Kilburn.
Spectacular views with a bonus of seeing the gliders in the air!
Been a few times since and will continue to visit.

We quickly stoped here to change the babys nappy in the car, then realised it was a chargeable car park but we had already drove away. Will we get charged a fine for stopping? Id say we stopped for about 8 mins if that! Thanks

Hi there, the walk across to the White Horse along the top of the plateau is pushchair friendly (though take care crossing the A170). You can see the walk on our website (TripAdvisor won't let me post the link) - the walk is called Sutton Bank and the White Horse Best wishes, Catriona

Can I fly my drone
Drone operators do require landowner permission to take off and land.
The close proximity of Sutton Bank National Park Centre to Yorkshire Gliding Club means that the Centre grounds and surroundings are not suitable for flying drones (new laws introduced 30 May 2018 restrict all drones from flying above 400 feet and within 1 kilometre of airport boundaries). Therefore it is unlikely that you will be given permission to do so.
Where we have given permission previously, operators have been professionally registered and held public liability insurance. In the case of Sutton Bank, they must also contact the Gliding Club themselves and seek their permission to fly.

There are very few bus services to Sutton Bank from Thirsk, the only one is the Sunday/Bank Holiday service provided by MoorsBus. You would need to take service M5 connecting with M4 at Helmsley which then goes to Sutton Bank. Please google Moorsbus to find their website and look at the Sunday and Bank Holiday timetables page.

Fantastic place outstanding views but will never return because of car park attendant I’ve never met such a jumped up jobs worth in all my years l stopped in empty coach area to see if I was going to park up or visit Helmsley as rain was very heavy only to be bombarded by this awful man very very rude

Is it possible to park a 6.2m motorhome in the car park?

I think the car park will be big enough. However it is a steep 1 in 4 windy route up and caravans are banned, but there is an alternative caravan route, and a lot of HGVs struggle. if your motorhome struggles with pulling power, you will be better following the alternative caravan route, then doubling back along the main road, to avoid getting stuck on the hill. Lots of HGVs get stuck and have to be towed off.
