This place has amazing potential and could be real gem in this location given it has a different range of beer compared to the standard german offerings every where else, but it just can't compete.
Firstly, the atomsphere needs improvement to say the least. No decor and the furniture looks like it was picked up on hard rubbish day (not in a cute vintage way, either). My group ended up sitting outside in the court yard even though it was freezing because the interior was so depressing. We were informed the pizzas are pre-made elsewhere and just heated on site, which would be fine if they weren't charging $25 a pop. They're good, but I don't understand that pricepoint at all.
The beer is really the only saving grace. Interesting flavours, a good variety and a nice change from what you can find everywhere else in this area. I really enjoyed the sour cherry one. Given everything else about this place, I'd say pick up a six pack and be on your way.

We visited Hahndorf on an extremely cold and wet day.
So good to sit in front of the fire and enjoy good beer, we enjoyed the pilsner (and they served pints).

Gulf Brewing is located in an old stone building in the main street of Hahndorf and could be easily missed as it has does not have prominent signage. The tap room, which is open to the public four days a week, is light and airy but a bit stark with pale coloured un-decorated walls. There is outdoor seating in a beer garden and out the front over-looking the busy main street. On the day of my visit the venue was very quiet so the staff had time to chat and while they were not really engaging did show they had a good working knowledge of the products. Prices are craft beer scene standard and tasters, of four beers in either ‘big’ or ‘small’ sizes, are available and take-away in bottles is also available. If you favour a lot of flavour, don’t leave without trying the Smoke Stack Rauchbier.

Soooo Much potential with this place. lovely open fire here and the wine we had was fine, priced well and served quickly. needs a bit of sprucing up and some signage out front to get people excited. more crowds inside would definitely generate atmosphere and the idea of wood oven pizzas etc excited us once told about them. we only went in to give our non wine drinker a break from our wine tasting. :) Service ok. but for a touristy sunday morning I would have had fire stocked, lines cleaned and kegs changed and everything else ready and set for a snuggly inside day. Chat to customers, market your beer and build rapport with customers. tourists love that... Even local tourists. We will be back to try the pizza.

We have visited this brewery a few times. It is small, but with a couple of inside rooms (one with an open fire - nice in winter) and two tables on a balcony (nice in summer)
There are 8 beers available, all made by Gulf Brewery, plus a local cider and some wines.
The beers range from a pilsner to an IPA and a stout. They also have the Smoke Stack, a smokey beer with a taste a little like bacon.
There are tasting paddles available, or beer can be purchased by the schooner or pint.
Take aways are also available.

Initially I had a bit of an issue with their closing times but once that was resolved the experience was good.
I have tried 2 of their brews TRADE WINDS IPA, this is a wonderful strong taste and I can highly recommend it. HUMPBACK PALE ALE,is an even stronger taste - not for the fainthearted again highly recommended.

Stumbled across the gym when our tour bus told us and gave us about 90 minutes to roam this small German town. We walked in for a flight of beer, after all where better than German town?
We were 3 people and they had a pretty extensive menu and all at a reasonable cost. Between the 3 Of we basically got to try each of the beers on tap. I’m a huge beer fan and everything tasted amazing. If only we could find a hotdog or bratwurst to go with it.

We were looking forward to visiting this establishment during our stay in the Hahndorf region.
There was simply a closed sign on the door. No indication of reopening day or date.
However their website showed it as being open, so we would try again to visit, only to be disappointed.
These days I think it is only courtesy to keep online details up to date so as not to disappoint potential customers.
The locals said it is often closed, so maybe it won't be there on our next visit?
A pity because I had heard good reviews of their beers.

It was a nice saturday lunch time. 5 of us got tasting plates cost $10 for 6. The guy behind counter was really rude.
The beers had no carbonation flat. Tasted like and smelt like dirty socks. Not a big fan.
Look each to there own opinions but thats how i felt. Try but not somewhere i would return

This was the 2nd try to genuinely try local beers etc. This is an outlet for beer brewed in Adelaide, but in a very touristy town. Cellar doors in the town were similar ie an outlet for something produced further away, but effectively selling wine. (We were asked for Aus $5 per person per glass to be tried ...... aka a bar!) Beer tasting was better as we could buy a tasting paddle - 550ml of 8 beers and 2 ciders, with notes etc. We simply bought another round after and departed, as we did not want to carry anything back of what we tasted, but is purely personal preference / taste.

Hi Kylie
We are dog friendly, We have a beer garden area where dogs are welcome anytime. You can also sit on the verandah area anytime as that is under cover. These areas are licensed, so you can eat and drink in these areas.
We don't let any dogs inside except for those with people with a disability as we are serving and preparing food products in the main bar and kitchen.
