Paid $20 each to view a small, rather undistinguished collection of art. Aside from a respectable sampling of impressionist and European artworks along with a few nice bronzes, there is little of interest to warrant the time and expense. Curious absence of virtually any Asian artwork, too. Museum building and courtyard were more interesting than most of the contemporary art….

As a Veteran, admission for the whole family (total 5 adults and 4 kids) was free. Nice exhibits, art collection excellent and interactive color playtime super!

Columbus Museum of Art is outstanding. In an art trip, I visited Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Detroit, Newfields (Indianapolis), Carnegie (Pittsburgh) and compared them all. I’d read some reviews that made me wonder what was wrong with Columbus. After visiting, Columbus was up there with the best of the other cities on this list. I can't decide if Columbus is better than Cleveland or Detroit. It's THAT GOOD!
Columbus has lots of art and they hang it everywhere, including in the children’s play room and in the halls in their basement. You might be thinking there’s nothing to see on the way to the men’s room but then you find more art in the hall. Columbus does a fantastic job of showing as much art as they can and it is quality stuff.
Their American works include a famous Hopper, lesser known Chase, 4 Bellows, 3 Demuths, several Marsden Hartley. Their European paintings have 2 of the finest Matisse I’ve seen, an iconic Jawlensky (the green woman), Sargent, and some good German Expressionism. A very fine Delaunay hangs here (The Portuguese Woman). Their modern works are wonderful.
I was fortunate enough to coincide with 2 blockbuster exhibits: Robin F. Williams and Marie Laurencin. Laurencin’s work is hard to come by but very nice to see. Here I got a large dose of her style and it is wonderful! Wow. Williams work is even more incredible. “Final Girl Exodus” is only matched in mastery by “Siri Calls for Help”. Her work is big, bold and fabulous. Try to go when you can catch these. If not, you’ll still LOVE this museum.

Yeah art is great, museum will steal your money. Paid up front for my parking after they tried pushing to spend it at the cafe so I can spend more money. I go get out of parking, oh wow I have to pay again. I was told nothing can be done. Ok cool, I guess stealing is a thing now. Horrible.

Had a great experience here. The kids learned a lot during the trip and will come back soon hopefully next year when the weather is better.

What a wonderful surprise! This was a fantastic museum. For its size, it had a bit of everything: Mesoamerican pottery, European masters, Impressionists, modern glass, LGBT art, bronze sculptures, a sizable George Bellows collection--and my favorite, a special exhibit called "Cats."

I thought the museum was fantastic until I reached the hallway painted with Baal and other demon/child sacrificing images. I understand art is meant to provoke and initiate reaction; however, I was appalled that they chose to place this “art work” next to the children’s area. So you literally had to walk past it for your child to go to their area. Completely uncalled for.

While there is a small collection of impressionist art, I found the modern collection better and more interesting. I was told that they have a new curator, which might have freshened the experience.

We took in the 1960s and 1970s American Photography exhibit with work from Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman and a new-to-me artist, Francesca Woodman. Very interesting from an art and history perspective and especially important for women artists pushing and redefining photography as an art medium. We only casually walked through several of the permanent galleries, but loved the Edward Hopper. A nice-sized, easily visited art museum accessible to downtown visitors.

Hi Ally, there's a help button on the ticket taker at the exit. They would have opened the gate for you. Technology isn't perfect!

This is just a museum for local artist? Nothing really old from other centuries? Or other countries?

If you go to the museum web site and click on the menu in the upper right, click Art and then Collection and you'll get a good sense of what's there.

A tour given by a docent can be helpful to understand the history of the pieces and take a little extra time but it is worth it. Add in time for shopping and it could take about two to three hours.

There is an admission fee. There are discounts for teachers, military and seniors. They lost have annual memberships that might be worthwhile if you want to make several trips or want to join their special programs for adults or kids.

Parking is free. Downtown parking and traffic are not problematic at all in C-bus as several suburbs are cities in their own right and siphon it away.
