We enjoyed our trip to the light house. The museum was really neat - lots of things to read and look at! The lady's working the front desk were very kind and we enjoyed chatting with them. We even got ribbons for going to the top of the light house! We went around 3:00 or so on Friday and it wasn't busy. Next time we hope to attend the night time tour ( see the website for info).

Great little museum with friendly staff. You can climb the tower to the top where there is a nice view of the lake. Lots of historical items . They change out the displays so I'm sure we will return for another visit.

I have toured quite a few lighthouse museums. I really enjoyed this one. The items on display were different than previously seen items at other museums. Loved the story of the cat. Beautiful spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse. Not a very tall lighthouse so it was an easy climb. The staff was very friendly. Don't forget to get your ribbon after your climb!

Third time here. I toured the museum again, spoke with a volunteer about the relics, and bought a United States Lighthouse Society passport. Got it stamped and I purchased a Beautiful decal that depicts the newer Fairport Harbor breakwater light, which is visible from the top of this lighthouse tower. You just can't get to it.

Friendly staff. Nice displays. If you have a maritime interest you would spend more time than me. Ask about the "ghost cat" story.

We stopped here on a day trip to Fairport. Its a super cute little marine museum. The staff was very friendly. Admission is $7, there is a discount for seniors and military. it's located in the old light house keepers quarters and has alot of old marine displays and artifacts. Some very interesting facts about Lake Erie. Admission also gets you access to the old Light House Tower, which has spectacular views. The staircase is a bit sketchy and not for any member afraid of heights. This is worth a stop if your in the area. The do have limited hours like some mentioned. We were there on a Saturday and they were open 1pm-4pm.

The museum was not open when we went. It's still a great photo opp. There is a large non working lighthouse at the museum entrance. The Fairport Harbor Lighthouse is on Lake Erie.

This 1871 tower and keeper's building in nearby Fairport Harbor have been on my bucket list for a long time. There is a local TV station that did a segment on Fairport Harbor and showed the dilemma they are facing at the lighthouse because of government lockouts resulting in diminished revenue for upkeep of this fine resource. That's what made me get up and go for a visit today.
First I emailed the keeper for information on hours and prices so I could plan my trip a little in advance.
I took a few photos around the tower and I will attempt to share them here.
The museum has so many archives and relics from a bygone age of Great Lakes shipping (not SO very far in the past after all) that cannot be cataloged, in my opinion.

We called ahead to set up a tour for our family. The tour guide seemed very excited about us coming and seemed to enjoy sharing information about the museum. Our littlest was afraid of the stairs in the lighthouse and wouldn't climb.
This is where the famous ghost cat was discovered and seems to be one of the most popular features for some people (the mummified cat is on display). We found the ship cabin to be the best museum feature however.
If you are planning to be in the area, call and see if you can stop in for a short visit.

Lovely collection of Great Lakes items. The lighthouse is a gem and its cast iron stairs are exquisite. There is a wheelhouse that was moved to be an addition to the museum. The museum staff were kind and helpful. The ghost cat story adds some mystery and a very interesting story.
