Talakaveri is the place where the river Kaveri originates. It is located on Brahmagiri hills near Bhagamandala in Coorg district of Karnataka. Talakaveri is at a height of 1,276 meters above sea level. However, one cannot visibly see the water flow from this place to the main river course throughout the year, except during the monsoon.
A tank has been erected on a hillside at the place which is believed to be the origin of the river. There is also a small temple which is visited by pilgrims. The river originates as a spring feeding this tank and many people come to bathe on special days. The waters are then said to flow underground to emerge as the Kaveri river some distance away. The temple has been renovated extensively by the state government.
The whole place is beautiful and surrounded by greenery.

We visited Coorg and Talakaveri was main attraction. We thoght it will be closer but it was almost 45 km fron our home stay. Complete road is hilly and turns & ghats.
But when we entered, it was awasome It is very beautiful place
Whole atmosphere was full of mist suddenly and it was believable to experience misty zone in full summer.
It is very holly place, birth of Mother Kavery.
There is wonderful view of whole deep valley.
Must , must visit during Coorg visit.

Although it is a temple atop hill where river Kaveri originates, the place has much more to offer than just that. Behind the temple are around 150 steps. Once one ascends them, you reach a place so close to nature that it is over whelming. You can just sit there and be at peace with yourself. Definitely worth going to.

I felt like sitting and mediating there, such was the calm and charm of the place.Also, it was not thronged fully and so I could feel at peace.

Its a temple on the top of a hill where river cauvery originates and flows down. Atmosphere is good. You can take a holy dip and pray to God.. Climb the steep mountain for 200 meters to get a great view of the western ghats - mother nature in its full glory. Its Kerala Karnataka border which you may not be able to recognize. Drive from Coorg to Talakaveri is interesting with winding roads and plantations all through the way. Start early in the day. Have plenty of food with you. You may not find a decent hotel enroute. Can club this place if you are on your way to Wayanad

Considered to be the origin of Kaveri river , this place located on the Brahmagiri hills is a beautiful place. The view around is picturesque and the temple along with its flight of stairs adds to the charm of this place.
I have already written about the Talakaveri temple in my other review.
It is a famous pilgrimage spot.

Nice place, Temple, river and the surroundings are very clean. Can be considered for a days outing from Bangalore, preferably via Srirangapatna-Hunsur route AS THE ROADS ARE GOOD compared to the Arakalgudu - Chenarayaptna

The sacred river Cauvery starts as a spring in ThalaiKaveri in Coorg, Karnataka and travels in the mountains as a river..Touches ground at Sivasamudram water falls. Following the route that Cauvery takes itself is a pleasant journey and divine experience.
