We were in dress circle row H seats 5 and 6.we had a great view until someone got up and started dancing on the stairs. Blocking our view completly.
I told 2 of the staff who were standing behind us. They shrugged.After the interval another woman got up behind her and started to dance too.
We paid good money to see a really good show and ended up seeing two woman who danced badly on stairs surely a health and safety issue !

Love this theatre , great staff and manager David ... personally feel it was a shame about the show... Yes it was an interpretation of Motown hits but 'sweet' was about the last thing it was ! Even allowing for a poor PA sound system/mixing desk which seemed to be overdriven with distortion and lack of sound clarity when all of the front line singers were on mic., it often seemed like a shouting match as to which of them might seek to deliver something like the rich melodic soulful vocals so prevalent in Motown classics and so lacking here. Without being unkind although ok in an open mic sort of way, there really wasn't a star voice amongst them and at times in the second half their extremely energetic routines ( the enthusiasm of which couldn't be faulted) led to some flat note delivery.
The backing band looked and sounded mostly like session musicians, were very competent, driven by a tight drummer and bass unit. Sax player also worth a mention as being on the money. The guitarist and at times the keyboard were lost in the cacophony of noise once the 'singers' were all in, largely over powering any of the music niceties .
It could have been so much better with the appropriate volume, mic balance and distinction to match the capabilities of the sound system and the acoustics of the venue.
One of our group actually had to move to the foyer to be able to get any sense of a realistic sound balance and commented on the number of people leaving during the first half complaining about the show. From a theatre perspective , whilst difficult to get a balance between encouraging people to stand up and dance and not blocking the view of the stage for those seated behind them who had paid for the privilege of seeing the act not an array of other audience members backsides......or is someone being selfish ???

Went to see Legally Blonde. Great performances, sets, music. Congratulations Sally for putting on a fabulous show!
Good large bar for drinks. Good selection and quick service. Some seating. Great location.

The Palace Theatre is a quaint little theatre with lots of character but due to the age of the theatre some refurbishment wouldn’t go a miss.
It was my first time visiting to see the lovely Lemar. Lemar was great but the sound system in the circle area was terrible, the Bosch speakers that were installed above the seating area were very distorted and distracted us away from the music. I don’t know if this is usually a problem but it definitely spoiled the the sound of Lemar’s fabulous voice 😞

Went to see The Mousetrap. Really well performed. The ushers were really friendly and helpful. Very nice little theatre. Recommend it.

We persevered with Adele- The Story so Far but not everyone stayed until the end of this terrible show. It went wrong from the start with the stage in darkness with all performers in place before a woman wearing a white dress ran on and fiddled with the lap top. Suddenly the stage was lit up and a video played at the back and a pseudo American voice-over informed us of Adele's story so far. The singer then began singing Adele songs but kept referrring to the auto cue set at her feet. At times the guitarists were so bored they had their arms crossed and even yawned. The drummer was excellent as were the backing singers who did a sterling job of keeping' Adele' on track but even they were flummoxed when she appealed to the audience to wave their phone torches around 'As we are going to sing a tribute to George Michael' She then launched into When the Rain Is Blowing in your Face... BUT..the band were playing a totally different song! Another hurried conflab and she went with the band's choice and we never did get to hear anything for George. Another strange event was when she ran off the stage mid song and reappeared in a different dress. The band played on...This show was under rehearsed, badly executed and if I weren't such a fan of the Palace Theatre I would demand my money back.

Words show ever
Do you believe in ghosts
Nothing about the theatre being haunted or what goes on after it's closed
Very badly acted play
Think the actors were amateurs
Would rate it as a minus but no option for this
About 60 people left after 1st 1/2
Only went back in to see if it got better...it didn't
Save your money absolute c**p
On top of that
Asked for a coffee at 1/2 time
Was told "were not making any more"
I was 2nd in the queue
Very bad show & bad manners from bar staff

Show was great but spoilt by the seating which is extremely uncomfortable and take your own sweets and a drink unless you can take out a mortgage before you go.

Although we had a fairly good evening there was disappointing parts. I really like keep paying with cash. We must not lose the option. The show was quite well done. Staff were pleasant

I went to watch Steel Magnolias tonight at The palace theatre and it was fantastic! An amazing cast that excelled themselves. I was always a fan of Lucy speed but her accent and performance was out of this world. The whole cast were gripping and by the end I was in tears. What a performance from some amazing actresses. Well worth a watch . I would go and watch it again. I love Palace theatre. An intimate theatre that allows you to enjoy their productions. Thank you for a great night! Well done ladies!!!

Hello. Thinking of parking at Hamlet Court Road for the theatre, but I notice from the car park's website that the parking charges are only up until 1800hrs. As my car will be there for several hours after that time is it safe to leave it there? i.e. won't be clamped or removed?

I think it just means that it's free to park outside of those times.

We parked at hamlet Court Road car park. We got there at 7 and was free to park.

Hi, I'm thinking of coming in November but there are only gallery seats for the show I want and there are 64 steps to the gallery. Is there a handrail? I could manage as long as there was a handrail to hold on to all the way.

Is row a in front stalls a good seat for a small 6yr old. Think seats 8 and 9 which is an aisle seat?

I’d say row ‘A’ should be fine for a 6 year old. They would be nice a close in full view of the stage. It is a bit of a look up however.
When we went we were in the front row with no complaints.
I’m not sure or the seat numbering or locations. I’m sure if you have a look on their website a diagram of the seat locations will be a available.

There is a carpark 500m further into southend on the left by the next set of lights. There is also a nice italian restaurant 'azzuros' a further 50m on past the lights on the right. Hope this helps.
