We hadn't been to the New Forest for many years and really enjoyed looking around the Visitor Centre which gave us history and suggestions of places to visit. It was beautifully laid out and we appreciated it.

Visited the shop and cafe today. Not a pleasant experience. Staff in both the cafe and shop were surly and rude.
The lady serving in the cafe was rather unfriendly and abrupt. I checked with her that my receipt meant I could get the discount in the shop that had previously been available.
She said yes.
Went to the till in the shop with my purchase and gave the lady the receipt for discount. She said it was the wrong receipt, and that I needed to spend over £10. If she'd checked the receipt she would've seen we had spent over £14!
I then walked over to the lady in the cafe to tell her. She gave me a discount card,but said nothing, no apology.
It seems the staff are humiliating jobsworths!
The previous managers of the cafe were a lovely couple- friendly, cheery,efficient. The present staff could learn a great deal from them in good customer service.

Been before and had great time. Today two large dogs lying across the floor nowhere near their owners, drooling everywhere. Decided to risk allergy and dot as far away as possible as the soup was a favourite. Tried to order and was told no that's sold out it's now something else. So why leave it on board. Asked if there was an alternative and got a very off hand 'no'. Left very disappointed that the place appears to be on a downward spiral. Too many other good cafes in Lyndhurst to let standards drop. Will be using those in future!!

I am doing a memory trip on New Forest camp sites I and my family stayed on in early 70s. Most are still there but one, Slufters, I could not find despite asking at sites. A helpful warden at Holmsley suggested the museum at Lyndhurst, part of the Heritage Centre. They searched their database and provided me with a detailed printout of directions and other information. They made my day as Slufters holds a special memory for when as a couple with a young family we stayed there which is now not possible. It was delightful and empty. Had to get water from half a mile away but we had toilets and showers which we didn't have to share and peace and quiet

A very interesting and well-done museum which offer to travel in the local history and have temporary exhibitions.
There are also a lot of children’s activities.
I have learnt a lot about New Forest

Although not large, the amount of information about the New Forest is extensive and we learned a lot about the history and culture of the area.
We also had some nice coffee and I pigged out on a very sweet and rich cake which definitely needed to be walked off.

This is an excellent place to start your holiday off! It gives a great whistle stop tour of new forest history.
There are many activities for children and interesting exhibits too. It’s easy to learn lots of fantastic facts about the local wildlife, wartime Britain, the origins of the new forest and much more!

I called in here on my way back home after spending a few days with friends who live nearby. As I had a long journey ahead, I wasn’t able to spend as much time here as the place deserves but really enjoyed my visit. The museum is excellent, well laid out with lots of interesting information about the history of the forest, including the flora and fauna and how people have lived there over the centuries. I also enjoyed the current honey exhibition and bought some local honey to take home. The tapestry upstairs is a phenomenal piece of artwork, but sadly difficult to photograph as it’s behind glass and the reflections really spoil the viewing of it. As far as I could tell, there were no cards available to purchase of the tapestry, but as I was in a hurry I may have missed them. The gift shop was well stocked with quality goods. I bought locally made jam and soap there too. Well worth a visit. I hope to return and spend more time there. Plenty of parking in the public car park outside.

The New Forest Heritage Centre is truly unique in housing such as huge collection of material about this fascinating forest with its ancient history. The staff are always keen to help and apart from a spacious museum there’s also an excellent shop and a first class cafe (amazing cakes), all under one roof. Admission is free. Highly recommended.

Visited the New Forest visitor centre in Lyndhurst, a nice visitor introduction museum, and cafe. Staff full of ideas where to visit in the forest to see deer, horses and other animals living in the forest .
