Little shack shops, great seafood, boat trips to see the seals which is great, sometimes have bands playing too, excellent

Use the big car park just past the harbour (cheaper than the ones in town and on the harbour).
Plenty of shops-in-sheds and photo opportunities. Sad about the Crab and Winkle Restaurant being burnt out - lets hope it will be rebuilt.

It’s an active working harbour with a variety of outlets where you can buy fresh fish and restaurants. The harbour is now missing it largest wet and shell fish outlet - there was a severe fire that has destroyed the family business.
The are a number of working fishing boats in the harbour which add a good splash of colour and picturesque reflection when the sun is in the right place. It is a real working harbour has a charm.
You have a wide choice of fresh fish restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Superbe promenade en lingeant le port très mignon avec plein de vieux immeubles de cabanes de dégustation d’huître ( la reine du port )une promenade tout le long de la plage très très étonnant

I can appreciate that some of the locals need jobs, other than via tourism, but couldn't the ugly factory be moved to a less visible spot?
I doubt that ugly factory employs more people than tourism.
But while it was a blot on the landscape, let's not get carried away - the harbour area is still very attractive. Just close your eyes, as they sweep over the factory! Lol.

Discovered a gem of a seafood shop and eatery. FARM HARBOUR 2 Harbour Street near the sea front. Very fresh seafood cooked from the selection in the window.
Tempura prawns and mussels along with home cut chips and samphire. Both under £9. An absolute steal.
They have just opened so no reviews, very basic inside likewise the drinks on offer, but they deserve to succeed and hopefully things can only improve.
We walked away with a bag of cockles,huge skate wings and lovely plump sea bass for our freezer.
Need their menu outside as it was only when we went to the counter we realised what was on offer. Much better than fish and chips from a freezer everywhere else.

Lots of atmosphere, great pop up shops along the harbour, loads of fish restaurants selling oysters and fish and even whitebait! Punnet of cherries lasted all week.
Do go at the weekend, we went on a Saturday and parked in school car park collecting for charity.
We returned on Tuesday afternoon but found all the pop up stalls were shut

very nice atmosphere, perfect views and a lovely place to enjoy a good walk and a relaxing day. Whitstable is really nice place.

amazing place. nice beach. worth it to stay until the tide goes down and up again. if you like oysters, this is the place to be!

A relatively small but working 'L' shaped harbour with a collection of fishing boats and an old lifeboat. There was also a fully rigged Thames Barge when we were there. The sea level rise between tides is quite remarkable, making entry difficult at low tide.

We are looking to hire a beach hut and we have been offered one on long beach, between the harbour and hotel continental. I can’t find much information on this. Is it a nice beach? Is it sandy? And family friendly? Many thanks in advance!

HIya, The beach is shingle based and drops nicely. There are patches of sand to be found if that’s what you wish to sit on. We walked by the shoreline several evenings and I’m sure you will love it. The sea is quite calm and you can walk out as it is shallow.

How do I get to the harbor from the Whitstable train station? We also like to see the tankerton slopes. What order should we see these places?

The slopes are no more than a 15 minute walk from either the station or the harbour. If I was you I'd walk to the slopes first, stop and have a rest and relax and then walk along the front to the Harbour and have a nice coffee or fish and chips!
Station to harbour is about 10 minutes.

Yes it is, I have seen many people visiting with their dog. Although I do not know if you can allow your dog off the lead for a swim.
