Where do we start!
Prior to our visit, I reached out to Zoe (head of collections) and asked if the museum held my husbands grandmothers late fathers war medals. Zoe confirmed that they did. I asked Zoe if it would be possible for my husband and our children to have their photo taken with the medals so we could give the photo as a gift for Christmas. Zoe agreed and we arranged a day and time.
When arriving we were greeted by Zoe who was exceptionally clued up on the museum and the medals held there. Zoe and the museum went above and beyond to make sure we got some great photos and told us some amazing facts about the artefacts there.
Our children found the experience fun and engaging. They were given an activity pack to complete on arrival which really made them acknowledge everything in the museum and learn along the way.
Thank you to Zoe and The Green Howards museum for a truly wonderful day. We will absolutely be returning at some point in the future.

Spent a couple of hours in this museum as there is so much to see and read. It is a very well set out museum and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Paid a visit to Green Howards Museum on trip to Richmond Yorkshire. It is well worth a visit if you are interested in Richmonds military past. It had a D-Day section with it being June which was an added interesting bonus. It is situated in the Old Trinity Church in the main town square so cannot be missed.

This really is a very good museum with well presented items which chart the history of the Green Howards.
It’s located more or less in the centre of Richmond and there are nearby car parks ( time limited).
It only cost £8 for two entrance tickets and basically, you start at the top and work your way down. There is, I think, a lift available.
Every item on display has explanatory notes which are clear and concise. There are some interactive exhibits also.
For us, the medal room was truly awe inspiring. Row upon row of medals undoubtedly worn with pride by their recipients. The highlight was the display of Victoria Crosses and reading some of the citations was an humbling experience. There were no other visitors at that particular time so it was possible to stand in silence for a few moments…Lest we forget.
There is a small gift shop and toilets.
Highly recommended.

I have visited quite a few military museums both in the UK and Northern France and for presentation this is right up there.
The soldier's personal artifacts are thought provoking and bring the history of the regiment to life. I had no idea the regiment had been in so many campaigns.
I even found the irascible Fawltyesque person on reception quite amusing!

Wonderful collection of items associated with the XIX Green Howards. Particularly enjoyed the medal room with its collection of Victoria Crosses and other medals. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Richmond.

This excellent museum was founded at Richmond Barracks in 1922, the museum moved to its present location in the centre of the market place in Richmond in 1973. The collection spans three centuries and is spread out over three main floors (lift). The museum was extensively refurbished in 2014 and includes uniforms, medals, kit equipment, art, silver and personal items belonging to Soldiers. The medal room is particularly outstanding with well over three thousand items on display including Victoria and George Crosses. This is a clean, modern and well designed museum that perfectly does its job at demonstrating the rich history of this British Infantry Regiment.

This is a. Cracking museum representing the Green Howard’s regiment. It’s thoughtfully laid out in a great order working your way from the raising of the regiment right through to modern day. There’s some cracking dis-lays all thoughtfully labelled and explained. One favourite of mine was the medal room worth a good hour of your time.

This is a truly amazing museum with history going back hundreds of years. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Highly recommended.

Well worth a visit- fascinating, well laid out, the best exhibition and lovely staff. The medal room is outstanding. Brilliant for all ages and parking is free!
It is a beautiful setting and with a really good quality gift shop. I can't recommend this highly enough.
Great places to eat and shop outside in the marketplace too.

I remember as a boy living in Pickering during WW2 and seeing many Green Howards soldiers when they were in the Castle Camp garrison in my hometown.
I was fortunate in being son of a WW1 RFC airman who in civvy street was responsible as agent for the owners of the camp, so went with my Dad quite often as he did his work there.
Is there any recorded WW2 history of the GH at Pickering ?

Being a visitor to the Green Howards Museum in November 2014. I was very impressed with the new layout. There was only one thing that gave me concern and that was WHY was there a badge of the new Yorkshire Regiment as the centre piece on the floor? Is this not THE GREEN HOWARDS MUSEUM. or am I missing something.

Hello. The circular design on the floor in the centre of the 'Heart of the Regiment' area features both a Green Howards cap badge and a Yorkshire Regiment cap badge. This is to acknowledge the new regiment that The Green Howards became part of in 2006. We also have a Yorkshire Regiment case in our 'Modern Times' gallery. The floor graphic lists all the Battle Honours as well as showing places around the world that the regiment has been involved.
