There are Horse Troughs and a memorial to John Dryland in Sheep Street. They are outside the original library and on the street so that in days gone by horses and other animals would have been able to get some refreshment.
It's good that there are many memorials like this preserved to give us a reminder of what things were like in days gone by.

Sitting up in a local cafe and couldn't help but notice how good this memorial looks. Lovely sunny day and the flowers and plants look awesome. Fantastic craftsmanship!

Situated outside the library. You could easily miss seeing it as it just blends in with the surroundings! Got to be late 1800s,/ early 1900s. If only it could talk!

This is a good remaining example of the local history. It is well looked after and in the town centre so easy to locate. It is worth checking out in town.

This monument is easy to miss and unfortunately is not well placed for a good photograph with cars and shops in the background. However, look past all this to gain the sentiment of the monument. It is in recognition of John Winter Dryland, a doctor working in Kettering, who played a strong role in helping improve the health of the area, including improving the supply of purer water to the community in the latter half of the 1800s. The monument includes horse and dog troughs.

Worth looking if you are passing as this represents part of the towns history. Shame it is so close to the Newlands Centre which is a blot on the Kettering landscape. In this town, there are some beautiful and historic buildings.

This is a beautiful memorial to a local benefactor of Kettering. Steeped in history this has childhood memories and still well looked after today and a striking feature outside the town library and museum.

John Winter Dryland started his medical practice in Kettering in 1857, and took the role upon himself to be the public vaccinator.He was the inspiration behind the building of the Isolation Hospital (later Rockingham Road Hospital) in1897. As a memorial to him a water fountain for people and animals was erected in Sheep Street. Well worth a visit.
