Stayed at b and n in ford and came across this beautiful building and wall murials. So much detail describing each of the pictures. A hidden gem well worth the visit.

If you are in Northumberland a visit to Lady Waterford Hall in Ford is a must. Such an amazing place full of fantastic art work and history related to Lady Waterford, her life and her acts of welfare to the villagers.

This is worth a visit, albeit it is not one to spend hours there. The paintings are amazing, the descriptions in the centre of the room allow you to stand back and view the paintings and read all about them. Not a huge space, so after enjoying our visit we were pleased to be exiting as a coach party arrived!

A great find, had read up on this ,and we visited on a wet September day with our dog ,abd family.
The lady as you went in was fantastic,(dark hair pinned up) a real warm character with superb knowledge of the area and museum , and she kindly advised us on places to visit / eat nearby .beautiful paintings, toilets inside, and lovely cake and biscuits to buy .

Visiting on a really awful rainy day. The hall was warm (thankyou so much), nice clean toilets!, AMAZING hall, full of interest and you know what.........it was FREE (Opportunity to leave a donation). How often does that happen? The lady working on behalf of the estate was great - full of useful and insightful information. One place I will never forget.

Enjoying the huge murals in the hall by Lady Waterford, all of Biblical scenes are a fitting way to remember a truly great philanthropist. Besides being a recognised artist, she also pioneered the provision of good housing, free healthcare and universal education for her estate tenants decades before any politician managed to get such ideas through the House of Commons.
This hall contains a precis of her life and many of her smaller works too. There is a selection of gifts and a good cafe just outside. What's not to like?

Visited all sites within the Ford and Etal estate starting with Ford, a meticulously maintained “model village” built for the workers of the landed gentry in this glorious corner of north Northumberland. The gallery is quite remarkable, with its large murals and collection of sketches. While the pre-Raphaelite style of art isn’t a favourite one of mine, Lady Waterford was clearly a prodigious talent as her sketches from age 13 onwards demonstrate. The church is worth a visit but the castle is now an activity centre where the youngsters must surely think they have arrived at Hogwarts!
The name of the owner of the estate rang a bell with me from my childhood and it became clear that the first Baron took his title from my home town as he owned the mines where my grandfather and uncles hewed coal from the age of 14. I’m so pleased to be related to the noble family if not by blood then at least by sweat!

We visited Lady Waterford Hall (Ford) in the afternoon of Fri 20 May 2022, after first visiting Etal Castle then the Railway & Mill in Heatherslaw.
Location - Pick up a leaflet outside the Mill Visitor Centre, as apart from the great info on places in Heatherslaw, Ford & Etal it has a great map.
Lady Waterford Hall is just 2 miles down the road from Heatherslaw on the left just past Ford Castle.
Lady Waterford Hall is really amazing and a must see if only for the beautiful murals Formally a school the murals were painted in Ford Castle by Louisa Lady Waterford then relocated to the hall.
We were warmly greeted by volunteer Julie (a lovely Yorkshire lady), who actually lives locally.
After we walked around the hall, Julie was very kind in giving us some extra information on the area and it's history. She was also very happy to answer our questions.
Apart from the fantastic walled murals, the hall also has pictures and prints and a really nice gift shop at reasonable prices. Several lovely items sourced locally, like biscuits, jams, chutney, honey, royal jelly zipvit etc...
We both loved our visit to the hall and it's Free too... But leave a Donation if you can.

What a gem! This museum dedicated to the works of Lady Waterford really shouldn't be missed. The murals are fabulous and along with the many other paintings and sketches make this a most interesting and enjoyable place to visit.
The young lady on duty had a wealth of knowledge and was very pleasant.
A lovely little shop area too at reasonable prices.
