The winding house with the machinery is a fascinating testament to a group of hard working volunteers trying to preserve part of their history. Years of hard graft with reducing numbers and tight finances has produced a really impressive museum. Personal tour with one of volunteers was really informative and a laugh. Finished off with a bowl of chips and coffee in the volunteers cafe. Well worth a visit and donation.

We visited the old building just before lockdown. It was good to revisit and be in the new building. We were served lovely hot drinks and shortbread with chocolate chips in. It was a very clean cafe with pleasant volunteers, 2 of whom we talked with. The prices are ridiculously cheap. We hope to visit again soon when walking in the area, which we often are.

I'm so glad I live local to this, every time I look at this old colliery site it makes me happy & sad at the same time, happy that it's been saved and sad because every other colliery has now closed in Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire.

There's a cafe at the Pit now, not yet been to the cafe but looks ok.

If riding around the old pit land on bikes, be extra careful of the many unnecessary narrowed off sections to stop motorcycles.

This place is tucked away and its a real Gem of a place; it certainly doesnt seem to be well advertised and if it was they would be run off their feet it is so well done.

The site is obviously the old Pit and you can take tours around it with knowledgeable volunteers; we were a little late the day we visited but were able to wonder underneath the winding wheel and noted the very interesting bricks from all over the UK (doesn't sound as interesting as it was).

Its very well worth a visit, the visitor centre and cafe are excellent.

What a find ... fabulous museum and fabulous people bringing both the history of mining in the area, and a social history of Britain. Nice visitor centre with its own cafe, good tour, and so much to see. Mainly run by volunteers which makes it even more impressive.

Tucked away in the Nottinghamshire countryside, Pleasley Colliery offers an insight into a disappearing world. Fifty years ago almost every village in this area had a pit, and the vast majority of people living in those villages were, one way or another, employed in the industry. Today they've all gone, and only Pleasley is left to show future generations the life their forefathers once lived.

When people talk about Miners, collieries, turning coal, headstocks and many other rich phrases about 19th and 20th century coal production, they are too late to appreciate the actual workings. since all the collieries are now closed and mostly built over..
But thanks to the hard work of many volunteers we still have Pleasley Colliery available for everyone to have a 'hands on' experience to fully appreciate the hard work and difficult working conditions of the many men who supplied coal for the nation.
The whole series of buildings and the machinery been renovated and rebuilt and everywhere is available to walk round, touch. smell and experience the conditions of the workplace.
I have been several times with my children and grandchildren and each time it has been thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. The staff are extremely helpful and everyone loves answering questions and engaging the children in explaining the difficulties and hard work of the miners.
Some of the areas are difficult to access, but overall it is a wonderful place to visit and spend a few hours....and then have a lovely cup of tea and a sandwich.

Quite a large local mining museum. Done on a budget, but none the worse for that. Clearly run by those who care about our mining heritage. We spent over an hour there and would really recommend it, perhaps more for adults than children. It is adjacent to a country park, which we didn't use so can not comment.

Our dog loves going on walks here. Lots of wild flowers to see and wildlife on the various lakes. At the end of the walk is a cafe run by volunteers for a welcome tea and a piece of cake. Oh and don’t forget the dog biscuits . For those interested in mining history there is a museum next to the cafe which often has open days with the machinery working.
