Our honest summary - the courses are great. Lost Farm is probably more suited to high handicappers than Dunes, which I'm sure would be great for the low handicappers.
Don't stay on-site, don't eat on-site, just swing past for a round of golf and I'm sure you'll have a far better experience than we did staying for 4 days.
Holding the #5 position on the top Australian golf courses is flattering to say the least. Seven places ahead of the National in Melbourne, which in every measure would blow Barnbougle into the ocean. Twenty two places ahead of Barwon Heads!!
Our main findings:
Reception -
* Mostly helpful friendly staff although our first reception staff was neither. She didn't provide any additional information other than where the pro shop and sports bar were.
* Limited golf buggy storage - probably room for about 6-8 buggies and bags for the 50 rooms.
* Strict criteria around who can use the shuttle bus - only if you don’t have your own car!!
We were shocked to hear that the free shuttle bus between Dunes and Lost Farm (4km) was available, but only for guests who didn't have their own car. We had to plead our case to access the shuttle service based on the inconvenience of packing away the buggies and clubs into our small car. Reception staff finally acquiesced.
Course -
* Lots of available timeslots.
* Great courses to play.
* Good range of tee-box options.
* Friendly helpful pro shop staff, bar one who has been mentioned many times in previous reviews.
* No on-course toilets or water points, very minimal access to on-course drinks cart.
* Good hole signage.
* Bare patches on fairways and lots of divots.
* Good green conditions.
* No changing facilities at Dunes (only showers), slightly better facilities at Lost Farm.
Accomodation -
* Lost Farm Suites are comfortable, but dated and in need of a refresh.
* Free wifi throughout maxes out at 2-3 mbps, and minimal mobile phone reception to use as hotspot.
* No EV car charging points.
* No luggage trolleys to bring bags to the rooms, uphill from the carpark.
Hospitality -
* Continental breakfast is limited to cereal, bread, pastries and unfresh fruit - appeared to be a mixture of canned and frozen fruit.
* Cooked breakfast was bland and small portions.
* Dinner is expensive and reasonably good.

Course was unreal, but couldn’t enjoy the first 5 holes as walking into the pro shop at 6.59am for a 7am tee time, the older man behind the desk was arrogant, rude and just a complete a-hole. For such a nice course I won’t be back anytime soon.

Had an incredible seafood chowder at the Dunes restaurant. The sweetest little prawns, mouth-watering fish and perfect scallops in a creamy base that was garlicky and herby to the perfect levels. Unfortunately, breakfast at the Lost Farm restaurant was dreadful. Two very dull and chewy fritters and one burnt black. It never should have been served. I sent it back. Go to the Dunes restaurant. Can’t understand why people rave about the Lost Farm restaurant.

Brilliant. A bucket list item that was better than i could have dreamed. Lost lots of balls, but worth every one. When you hit great shot, it feels so damn good. I am 56, unfit, overweight and played the 14 hole Bougle run course after playing this.

This is an excellent golf course with a selection of Tees from black to cream at the front. Each of the 20 Holes is a challenge with variety of shots for all grades. The pro shop is not the friendliest place to start but once you start on the course its a new experience. Signposting on the course for first timers is sadly lacking and some time is wasted looking for the next Tee box. A much more enjoyable course than The Dunes. We did not stay overnight so no comments to added there.

To self cater one night in a small group we ordered & paid for 3 BBQ packs with 2 days notice. Starving hungry after over 6 hours playing 18 holes golf (slow play, that’s another major issue at Barnbougle Dunes) we asked for our BBQ packs at the Sports Bar, to be advised they had none left. Turns out that they didn’t have a list of names for orders, and the bar staff gave out pack to anyone who said they’d ordered them. Only other choice was pizza!. Can’t blame the bar staff for management’s lack of a simple bullet proof process. You could see the stress they were under. No surprise if staff retention is an issue. Big disappointment, big fail.

Right from the outset we were made to feel welcome. Our suite overlooked the ocean, but friends had a very scenic view over the golf course. Bridie made us the best tall Forty Spotted G&T before dinner, and looked after us each night. The Pork Belly was excellent, as was the Duck Confit and Mariners Pie. The only thing that could have been better was my golf. Barnbougle Run was very challenging.

The golf course was a wonderful experience as it was 2 years ago. Our accommodation and golf bookings were caught in a "software upgrade" and without a confirming phone call a week before we would not have had a room. We did not get the standard of the room we booked. our golf bookings were also lost and found 4 times. I know these things happen but not one of the obviously stressed admin staff apologised in anyway. It was like I had share their hassles.
I suggest you avoid the pro-shop staff member at all costs. Roscoe should be retired. he was indifferent to our enjoying the (expensive) experience. He is abrupt, arrogant and does the prop-shop a disservice by being there. So sorry to interrupt you Roscie while you are unpacking the shirts and for wanting to be treated with some civility. How he spoke to my wife's questions left us stunned. Find some pasture and put him it.

I have just returned home from a 5 day golf trip with 32 mates. We had a great time playing both courses and eating at both restaurants. The staff in both places were exceptionally helpful and friendly. However a pro shop staff member, namely one man named Rosco, almost ruined our experience. This man should not be in this job. He is rude, and does not seem to care one bit about the guests, and goes out of his way to be a smart ****. Lost Farm can do so much better than this.

It was great to be able to get on and play a round booking the day before. Beautiful golf course and challenging to play. Look forward to playing again one day

accommodation is around $200 per night per room, and golf around $140 per round per person however, suggest you connect direct with Barnbougle in lieu of the fact you have 8 people travelling.
