We walked to Crater Lake after our Dove Lake walk. we went via lilla lake and wombat pool up to crater lake and back to Ronny creek
This is a nice walk, moderate walk.

Great hike to do in Cradle Mountain area. Can be done a number of ways however I feel the best way to do it is from the Dove Lake car park and around to the Ronny Creek carpark. We actually did the Dove Lake circuit which just before the end of the circuit joins up with the Crater Lake circuit walk. There are some tough uphill sections to do with many steps so you will need some level of fitness. From Dove Lake end it is the shorter but heavily stepped section up to the Crater Lake via a couple of small lakes - Lake Lilla and Wombat Pools. The view from up top is spectacular. You can from up top make a detour to Marions Lookout although this is a very steep walk up and down. From the top of Crater Lake the trail is again heavily stepped but downhill the whole way and a long easy pathed section back to Ronny Creek. Bring clothes for all weather - we were in t-shirts going up to Crater Lake and by the time we were in the valley section towards Ronny Creek the weather closed in and the temperature dropped 10 degrees and heavy fog covered the area. This is a mountain place so even in the height of Summer when we did the walk, this place can change dramatically.

We did this hike and finished by walking part of the Dove Lake trail. Took us 3 hours from one shuttle stop to the other. I am 71 years old and in decent shape. We took breaks to film Wombats by the trail and take pictures of the lakes. Great scenery but not the best weather.

I struggled with how to get the right words in this review as this walk is just simply amazing. You are feeling like you are sitting on the top of the world when you get to the top of the circuit and you are overlooking the lake. It is truly beautiful seeing parts of nature things that are basically untouched by people. It takes a good couple of hours and there are quite a few steps but this is a must see.

Before going to Cradle Mountain National Park we checked what short walks we could do. The Crater Lake circuit seemed to fit the bill. We enquired at the information centre and no alarm bells rang from their description.
So off we went expecting a moderate hike. There is no way this is a grade 3. We started at Dove Lake and it was OK up to Wombat Lake. Rocky in places but not too bad. From Wombat Lake to Crater Lake it is a continuous and exhausting climb. Describing the climb as “short steep hill sections” is totally misleading.
On the way down it was pleasant and we saw from the map that we could save some energy by catching the shuttle at Ronny’s Creek rather than going back to Dove Lake.
Anyone contemplating this hike should start at Ronny’s Creek and head towards Crater Lake. You don’t need to go all the way to the top. Halfway up the lake, you have seen what there is to see. Then turn around and go back to Ronny’s Creek. Now that would be a nice little hike.

We did this 6km hike at the end of a long day hiking the NP and found it taxing - not sure if was the hike itself or whether we were just tired. We began from the Ronny Creek end and finished at Dove Lake. There is very little shade on this hike and only the first part is on boardwalk - the rest on unkept, rocky trails. There are lots of ascents and descents to get the heart rate up.
It was an interesting walk - through grasslands, past unnamed waterfalls, along part of the famed Overland Track and to Crater Lake. We took off our shoes and waded in the cool, clear water to revitalise our worn-out feet.
Keep an eye out for wombats at the Ronny Creek end. Loved the walk but happy to get to the end too.

The hike up to the waterfall is lovely and peaceful. Then the ascent becomes a bit more difficult. At Marions Lookout, it was chilly and windy, but we had the nicest view of Dove Lake. It was one of the most difficult hikes I've ever done. I'm not a hiker with a lot of experience. The circuit took us 5 hours to finish. I was relieved to see some other hikers on the route since it confirmed that we were on the correct track. I'm really glad we went on the hike.

Crater Lake is the other great walk at Cradle Mountain that most visitors will be easily able to manage.
It’s a 3 hour circuit from Ronny Creek, though it best to cut the last section across open grassland short, and finish at Dove Lake and get the bus back from there.
The track climbs steadily up to crater lake through grasslands, rainforest, past a lovely waterfall, and then peaks at the saddle above Dove and Crater Lakes.
From here you ca wind back down to Dove lake, or divert up to Marions.
This diversion is steep and involves a bit of a rock scramble, but is well worth it if the weather is clear. If it’s clouded in , don’t bother.
Beware, there are no facilities anywhere on this walk until the Dove Lake bus drop off.

Start at Dove Lake and then go via Lilla Lake , Wombat Pool and then up to the top and down to Crater Lake, the Crater Falls to Ronney Creek. The views change along the way and you will usually see various wild animlas and humans struggling with the bad weather and the climb.

Flat, easy walk for all fitness levels. Combine it with some of the other trails if you're a trekker. Worth trying to get this one into your itinerary
