Strange care taker of the park, an old man I think. Loiters around camps early in the morning taking pictures of rego plates, a very strange fetish he has acquired. But who am I to judge.

In short: the staff were highly professional and enthusiastic, the amenities were more ample and the vistas sublime! There is no hole in the UNESCO Wilderness experience. The clearly defined and rated trails, the refuges from weather, the learning opportunities, the shuttles in and out and Mother Nature all combine for a-once-in-a-lifetime enjoyment of Australia's gift to the world. Just go! 2 Days is enough. If you enjoy long hikes..then stay longer.

Lovely lake in the high country on the road from Hobart to Strahan. The massive visitor here is the starting or ending point of the Overland Track so you’ll see a large contingent of hikers all around. There are also many other tracks of varying lengths from here. There’s a restaurant here but rather on the pricey side and doesn’t do anything other than full sized meals, so don’t expect any sandwiches available anywhere. The only other place close by for food is a small cafe down the road but they don’t stock much.
The lake itself is nice and picturesque.

We took the ferry tour, to Narcissus at the other end of the lake and back. We were very disappointed. The landscape is mostly flat; mountains are rather far away. There is not so much to see. Very expensive for very little. The Cradle mountain park area up north was way more interesting.

We only had a short visit here on our way through. Regret not planning more time to do even a short walk. I would recommend allowing time if the weather is fine to explore. You do need a National Parks pass so if you are touring Tasmania we recommend checking out your options. Sometimes a yearly pass is cheaper than several day passes.
Come prepared for walking with appropriate shoes/boots and outer wear.

We had a couple of hours at Lake St. Clair to enjoy lunch and a quick hike or swim. The area is peaceful and trout were swimming in the lake. Lake St. Clair is Australia's deepest freshwater lake, carved by ice during glaciations over the last two million years. There are picnic tables near the visitor center if you don't want to eat by the lake. There are also a restaurant and bathrooms.

Stayed at the Pump house on the lake. Cycled over to the visitor center for coffee and the lovely assortment of hiking trails. Sone lovely opportunities to learn about Tasmania’s flora, fauna and wildlife.
Please note, this area is higher ( and cooler ) so wear layers - morning’s and evenings especially chilly.

We spent the afternoon here. You are able to do short and long walks, and if well organised you can do days coming over cradle mountain. For those of us a little physically challenged we booked and did the scenic ferry ride. This is the boat that collects walkers coming over the mountain, but we did a 1 1/2 hour cruise. Dillon was the captain and he gave us lots of information and showed us the beautiful mountains from the water. Thanks for a great tour Dillon.

Fantastic walk along the edge of Lake St Clair and through temperate Forrest. Path is clearly marked as you walk on glacial pebbles, sand and constructed walkway. Suitable for all ages.

Lovely deep water lake. The water is cold and clear.

From the visitors centre you have a number of walks with the easier ones just a hour, the more strenuous 4/5 hours.

The lake is very picturesque and changes with the time of day and cloud cover.

Images of Pump House Point can be seen across much of the lower lake. While a water taxi is available from the jetty at the visitor centre to take you to echo
Point and beyond.
