This was a nice park, but of the three parks we visited (Blendon Woods and Glacier Ridge are the other two) it was our least favorite. We took a short walk down to the river and our kids enjoyed throwing rocks in the water. The natural playscapes were just a little disappointing after Blendon Woods.

High banks offers a variety of recreational activities, including hikes on wide, well- maintained trails. Our group took an hour - long loop trail with an overlook of the river.

Visited Highbanks in December when there was no ice on the trails. The park is named for the high bluffs towering over the Olentangy River. Tributary streams cutting across the bluff have created a number of deep ravines.

There are several trails in the park with the one not to be missed being the Overlook Trail which is about three miles total, and provides an expansive view of the Olentagy River at the Overlook platform which is at the end of the trail.

I hope to visit Highbanks Park (one of the best in Columbus) many more times to appreciate the seasonal variations.

This park has several different trails ranging in length from 0.4 miles to 3.5 miles. There is no shortage of picnic areas and play grounds in this park. They have a Nature center, sledding hill for when it snows, a canoe launching area in the back of the park on a river. The park is over 1,000 acres. Some of the things that you may not expect in a park are an old family burial site for the Poole family. There are also some mounds. These sites are only available from trails. The park also has several deer and wild turkeys.
Due to the many trails the park is a favorite for many local high schools track teams. Also the community people who love to walk.

Wow what a great community park - beautiful hikes throughout the area. As of late June 2020 the Nature Center is still closed due to COVID-19 so plan accordingly. We stopped for a few hours to hike the area as a stop on a longer drive through the midwest. So glad we did - trails were fairly busy but plenty of space for physical distancing.

From March through December I like to hike the trails in various Metro Parks on the North side of Columbus. My favorite is Highbanks Metro Park. The trails are well maintained. The changing seasons are a delight to view.

Love Highbanks! They have great hiking trails and the park is beautiful. Recommend the Overlook trail, view from the overlook deck is very pretty, especially for central Ohio. Lots of picnic tables and play places for the kids and restrooms are usually clean.

Took my daughter there to do some senior pictures. With the trees changing colors it was really beautiful place. The river was also very nice.

Highbanks Metro Park is a great park hidden in a very busy area. There is lots to do here. The main thing I take advantage of here is the trail system. You can run on rocky trails, grass trails, or paved trails all around the park. All are usually well maintained. There is also a nice but small nature center as you enter the park on the right. There are lots of picnic grounds and places to relax as well as several playgrounds that are intended for younger kids mostly. At the bottom of the drive through the park there is a sledding hill and a nice place to go creeking in the Olentangy River during the warmer months of the year. If you are lucky, you can hike a trail there as well and see a bald eagle. Overall, its a pretty nice and scenic park.

Nature lies undisturbed, even though its 12,000 acres are surrounded by urban developments, and this metro park is wild, un-manicured by man in many areas. The first half mile drive is brambles, bushes, towering trees and eventually unfolds to a beautiful nature center on the right, picnic areas ahead and on the left, some covered. Out and beyond, nature trails lead to birding opportunities, an observation deck and no dogs allowed on the nature trails. The park is a great escape, an instant relief from the traffic and hubbub.
