Such history and totally accessible. Our host was most informative and answered all of our questions. Our tour included one other family and that allowed for an interesting conversation about the city and the local history.

An excellent narrative and walk, on Oberlin's history, not only on the underground railroad but the history of the college as well and the part they played in equality and the civil war.

Oberlin has a fascinating history in the runup to the Civil War. The abolitionist town aided escaped slaves on their way to Canada. Our tour guide shared the stories and personalities of those involved, inspiring us to want to learn more.

Of course I may be prejudice being on the board but, There was never a better by which I mean smart, friendly, informative group of people who are the employees, docents, and volunteers. They are dedicated to give everyone who drops by the best of experiences.

I was in Oberlin this past weekend for my 40th cluster reunion, and am glad that I made the time to take the "One Step Closer" tour. As an Oberlin graduate, I thought that I already knew a lot about the history of women at Oberlin - but I discovered that I was wrong! This 75 minute walking tour takes you around Tappan Square and portions of the Oberlin College campus and provides a unique perspective on women's history at Oberlin.
Although it was very rainy during my tour (boy, was I glad I had a poncho and an umbrella), I had a fabulous time. The modest $6 charge was reasonable, and the docent who led our tour was very knowledgable. I was also delighted to meet Jen Graham (Class of 2012), who originally created the tour while she was a student and who happened to be there with a friend.
The Oberlin Heritage Center offers many fascinating tours, and I hope to take others on future visits to the campus.

Alexandra our guide was excellent and provided a wonderful tour with great stories. She answered all our questions and found things that she knew we could connect to.
We asked some questions about travel to Cleveland and they could not have been more helpful.
The schoolhouse was a highlight.
This is definitely worth a visit.

One of the best historical museums to be found. OHC also offers various docent led walking tours for those who want to know more of Oberlin's history. It also offers various structured activities for children.

I took a walking tour with someone from the Heritage Center. It was very interesting...Oberlin truly has a past to be proud of as they have regularly pushed the boundaries of societal norms for the good.

Whether you have only a couple hours or all day...Oberlin is a really cool town and the Oberlin Heritage Center is a must on your places to stop. I've been here 4 times now and with the different docents you get a different perspective of the history of the two homes and one-room schoolhouse. Don't miss the change to take a tour here.

When you visit, you will tour 19th century houses, a one-room school house and take tours to learn about the 182 years of history through the stories of ordinary and extraordinary people like you and me. The begins with the establishment of Oberlin College in 1833, the first college in the United States open to African-Americans and women. The music conservatory is the oldest continuously operating school of its kind.
Through slavery, civil rights, wars, and the progression to modern times, Oberlin Heritage Center covers the history with interesting stories of both ordinary lives and adventurous ones. My wife and I have enjoyed our visits often and feel our volunteering effort is satisfying and rewarding.
