Interesting place!

This is an interesting place because it is very quiet so that you can hear the birds and see them Deer can often be spotted as you walk the trail. There is a path down to the quarry, which is devoid of water, but interesting. If desired you could walk around the quarry. It is a very quiet, peaceful place.

Limited activities for general appeal

We visited this Wood County Park for the first time. There is a quarry for repelling and bouldering, but we are seniors so we could not participate in the feature of the park. There is a 1 mile walking trail that is lovely, but it is covered by extensive tree canopy. We enjoyed it, but our thoughts are that it would be nice in the fall/winter months. If you are local to the area it is a nice place to run, but we had to drive 7 miles to get there from our residence so we will wait until the fall/winter to visit again.

Interesting

A lovely short walk on the trail loop surrounded by trees and wildlife. Simple and flat. The quarry is easily accessed through stairs for more exploring or if you want rappelling. You must sign in for the rappelling though.

The park District has done a wonderful job of making Sawyer Quarry a people and learning park. Rich with history and walking paths.

Very Beautiful

Very Beautiful especially in the fall. Great view of the quarry and can walk down into the quarry. There are walking trails too. We've taken our dog on walks there. We've been a couple of times.

Opportunities to Explore!

This nature preserve offers a short trail, gravel path suitable for wagon, wheelchair, or stroller, and also a walkway down to the quarry. The gravel path winds through a woodland. The descent to the quarry includes both shallow steps and a steeper metal staircase. Neither of these is suitable for anything with wheels. In places the paths are quite muddy during this mild winter. The quarry is a wonderland of rocks, gravel, little paths, remains of a railway, and various other kinds of debris. A great place for older kids to explore. Younger children need to be supervised since the terrain is uneven and there are steep drops in some places. We saw a number of dog walkers.

Beautiful Preserve

Visited this preserve for its opening in August 2016. It has a great view of the quarry and you can even walk down into it and explore. I am excited to walk the new trails!

Checked out the new Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve, very beautiful to see. Can’t wait for the new trails. Rappelling in the quarry is offered which is an affordable and fun activity!
