I just returned from a Nancy Drew convention at the Toledo main library and am amazed at this wonderful library and their staff. They went out of their way with a photo booth, scavenger hunt throughout the library and so much more. They have the Jennifer Fisher Nancy collection in a special room. Their gift shop had lovely locally made items! It’s a wonderful place for children also.

Most of the library staff at Main are decent; however there is one who is sitting next to me that had ME banned for comparing her to a retired librarian due to the comment she made to security that she felt threatened! Her name in Amnity9sp?) and i would not ask her the time, let alone for any help!

The Toledo Main Library is full of all kinds of information, more than you would be able to find in the smaller neighboring facilities.Just walking around or sitting down relaxing and looking through materials is very refreshing.

Moved away from downtown, but still the branch libraries can usually quickly reserve anything you need. Great selections of books, music, videos and more. And now audio books, etc available online. Always there for me since I was barely old enough to read.

Fantastic children's area! Friendly staff. Great activity zone. My 5 yr old son LOVES spending the day!

Parked in adjacent covered parking garage ( free for first hour ). Entered the library on lower level and stopped at the Library Cafe. We all ordered various Paninis- Yum. Fresh iced tea, daily soups and fresh desserts-already out if carrot cake by 1:30! Cheesecake is good. Adjacent giftshop benefits the library-some very unique and reasonably priced items. Going upstairs ( elevators available) enter the main library and atrium. Great signage and friendly staff to help you find your way. 2nd floor is for kids of all ages- play areas , books, reading nooks, the Jeep from sheep in a jeep , a Rainbow fish aquarium, solar system on the ceiling, the cat in the hat, as well as a cartouche- amoung many other delights ! Besides the usual books and multimedia- in Warmer months the library also offers outdoor rooftop areas, and the brown bag concert series . Additionally we spotted passport services. A great place to spend an hour or a day! Enjoy.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is housed in one of the most beautiful buildings in downtown Toledo. The architecture is splendind and inside the integrity of the original building blends well with the newer extension. Very friendly staff and, if you're planning on settling in the area, they have the best selection of books and reference materials in the country. I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee for 5 years and the thing I missed the most (besides family) was our wonderful library system. I'm so glad I'm back!

I would bet that there is a huge swath of people living in the Toledo area that have not visited our main library. Dang shame because this is a fantastic building. Both the new part and the existing building which was probably built in the 1930s have rooms that will impress. There is a hidden gem inside that you need to experience. On the top floor is the local history section. Great Wall of all of our past mayors and civic leaders as well as an awesome quiet room for looking at rare archival pieces.

As other reviews say, this library doesn't only have an extensive collection. It's full of wonderful architecture and art. The entrance lobby is lined with spectacular glass murals (glass, of course, because this is Toledo); the glass is actually called Vitrolite, and display cases in the lobby explain more.
I especially liked a couple of things. One was the way that the atrium addition was joined to the (former) outside of the older building. Another was the fanciful and very fun Children's section (and a messy toddler's room with doorways that are so short that adults have to crouch to get through). I'll include a couple of photos.
I spent an hour and a half in this large place... and I didn't pause except when I was taking (a bunch of) photos.
Oh, and there's cheap parking underneath the building. Be sure to take your ticket upstairs to be validated (the first hour is free).
