This is a terrific museum on an historically important campus. It's very well designed, and the exhibits are excellent, but they are not flashy--plan on doing a little reading here and not merely gazing at images. We found terrific items in the little gift shop. When we were there they had an especially excellent display on comic book history. This is a gem we were very glad to find on the map.

Ohio weekend visit to Dayton and made decision to visit this museum in Wilberforce, Ohio. We were so glad we made the stop.This museum gives a comprehensive history of struggles of African Anericans beginning with slavery on to present day struggles. There are exhibits to view including slave shackles The museum is located on the grounds of Central State University.

On our way to Dayton, we decided to stop at this out-of-the-way museum for a lesson in Afro-American history. While the Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati focuses on the early history, this museum focuses on more contemporary history and art. The art exhibit was especially impressive and I was unaware that there was such an Afro-American history in the arena of comic books as seen on display. My Afro-American grandchildren (ages 5,8,12) were especially interested in the WWII displays while I enjoyed the doll collection. It's a worthwhile stop and admission is free with the Ohio Historical Society passport

Cross cultural museum (predominately African-American) with changing exhibits. They had a great WWII exhibit as well as a very interesting African-American's in comics exhibit as well as the static displays that are always there. Well worth a stop with plenty to see, learn and experience! A beautiful space on beautiful grounds! Go take a look and be amazed!

Great art exhibit right now, but they removed the permanent exhibit about Blacks' lives--rooms set up like bygone eras etc. I hope they bring that back.
