In late summer and early October you will be amazed by the acres of cannas coloring the fields. Their history is fascinating and I promise you won't see this anywhere else.

This out-of-the-way place is beautiful and unique for Oklahoma and worth the drive! We drove 2 1/2 hours to get here on Labor Day and unfortunately it was closed for tours, but we were greeted by one of the friendly owners Mark Horn who told us the best place to park and that we could walk among the flowers and take all the photos we wanted.
First of all, it's located just a few miles north of the small town of Carnegie which boasts the longest continually running movie theater in Oklahoma, the Liberty Theatre, which sells $4.00 movie tickets (recent movies) and from what I hear gourmet hot dogs. Worth a stop by just to see.
The Horn Canna Farm itself is located off Hwy. 58 on County Rd. 1240 (see photo) where you'll turn right at the sign that says M&K Horn Farm (see photo). We actually missed it but saw the huge semi truck with the same sign in the pasture before the road and didn't know it was a "sign" that the road was coming up. The Horn Canna Farm sign itself is down on the right side (see photo), and you'll see houses and of course lots of fields of flowers.
They had so many varieties of red, yellow and orange cannas with red leaves and green leaves, with some dwarf varieties and some tall ones. You could tell that they had been beaten by the wind and rain (they had had quite a bit of rain earlier in the week), and the flowers are quite delicate so that has an impact on the freshness of the blooms. Needless to say, we still found some nice ones to take photos of. I've attached a number of photos to prove my point.
They also have an easy-to-navigate website where you can order bulbs that they ship all over the country. And at the end of September is the Horn Canna Festival in Carnegie where they give tours of the farm.
Who would have thought that something like this would be in Oklahoma? So cool! I highly recommend a visit, especially in September which is their peak season, and go during the week day when someone is there to give you a tour (closed weekends). It would be a great school day trip to take.
