Having driven all of Route 66 except through Oklahoma we had to visit the Blue Whale. There are not as many Route 66 remnants in Oklahoma as in other states but the Blue Whale is one of the few remaining that you must see IMHO. There is a little gift shop with some souveniers albei high priced but according to the sales person the proceeds go to maintain the Whale.
Nice photo op and place to have a picnic. Stop at a rest area prior unless you are ok with Porta Potties.

This is such a fun stop along Route 66! The history of this place is so interesting. The gift shop is great and sells turtle food for 55 cents! It is so fun to stand in the whale and watch the turtles and fish!

It was a quirky roadside attraction to see, but the gift shop postcards are waaaaay overpriced and the attendant wasn’t overly friendly. I don’t think I would want a big blue whale for my anniversary, but I’m glad we stopped so now we can say we saw it.

It’s a nice stop on Route 66 to take a breather. You can read all about how the whale began, there are picnic benches if you want to have a picnic, a couple of quirky signposts which help to remind you where you’ve already been and what the future holds and also a gift shop.
The water looks a bit dirty n definitely not for swimming in anymore but there are some fish swimming around.

Love this quirky Route 66 attraction! Must see if you are traveling thru OK. The whale will just make you smile and great photo opportunity. Cute little gift shop with some cute gift items. The story behind the whale is sweet and so glad the town of Catoosa saved this wonderful landmark! ❤️

FYI, the hours online say 8-6. The whale is always open. The gift shop closed at 5, SHARP and wasn't open at 9:30 the next morning, which was disappointing. We still love the whale and it's free! Just don't count on the gift shop being open.

One of those places that you have to see... it's one of those oddities that makes your trip interesting and enjoyable. Quirky fun.
One note of caution - if you need the rest rooms while there, I would suggest finding an alternative. Side by side toilets with no partitions... OK, the gents can manage with that, but the ladies?
Avoid that aspect and it's great fun!

A fun roadside attraction on Route 66. The Blue Whale had once fallen into disrepair, but has been renovated and is worth a stop if you’re in the area. Best of all, it’s free!

Originally a private family project this fascinating huge blue whale sitting on a small lake became so popular with the locals that it was opened up to the public. Sadly the original owners passed away and the area fell into disrepair but has now been renovated and is open once more.
Travelling west along Route 66 this attraction can be found on the right of the highway just after the crossing of the Verdigris River a mile or so after Claremore. Turning in there is an ample parking area with toilets, a gift shop (if open) and a seating area plus of course the slightly weird looking blue concrete whale sitting at the water. It is fun for kids who can still scamper around it for a little while and makes a nice break in the journey before getting to Tulsa.

The Blue Whale of Catoosa is a must stop along Route 66. It is identified by sign as a Route 66 Roadside Attraction. It is just outside Tulsa (not too far if you are on the east side of town). It has ample off-street free parking which will accommodate large vehicles. We visited it early in the morning and had the place almost to ourselves. There are informational signs to learn more about the site. The morning we were there the water was very still allowing us to capture the whale and its reflection. You can still walk into the belly of the whale but no swimming or diving. There are tables if you need a place for an impromptu picnic. There is a very small gift shop which was closed when we were there, so if you are interested in that, make sure you check the hours it is opened. There is a nice directional sign with blue whales on it identify other stops along Rote 66. There are some other odd, shaped structures on the site like a partially finished ark but ignore those and focus on the whale. Plenty of nice Route 66 photo ops at this stop and it was free and pet friendly.

It's not lit up and there was a gate when we went that said it was closed after a certain time of day, maybe dusk? Sunset? I can't recall what the gate said though but I got the impression that after a certain time it was locked.

Sounds like the Route 66 is the best app.... for us locals we pass by it so often, it would shock us to think someone could not find it.
1.. It is ON Route 66.... if you are headed to grand canyon what road are you on?
2. The Blue Whale of Catoosa is a waterfront structure, located just east of the town of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and it has become one of the most recognizable attractions on old Route 66
coming FROM the EAST the whale is 1.3 miles PAST the Verdigris River.
coming FROM the WEST the whale is 2.5 miles PAST the Hard Rock Cafe` (worth the stop, too. Good food, entertainment and nice break before you're back on the journey)
