This is an excellent example of the charm of a small museum - friendly staff, an abundance of local historical artifacts, and a bit of the strange - ask about their collection of native Alaskan artifacts.
This place occupies the site of historic land runs, a once bustling passenger rail station, and a trolley car system.
In addition to getting a trolley ride around downtown El Reno, visit a refurbished 1900s hotel, and enjoy the other historic buildings - the areas first Mennonite church, the country's first Red Cross refreshment station, and a one-room schoolhouse.
The staff may also be able to assist in local historical research.

I had done some quick visits to the museum at some points, but really began to find it’s value in 2018 when I needed information when compiling an abstract on title to land in El Reno that was once crossed by railroads I went to the museum. The staff was very helpful and were able to pull out old railroad maps that showed the location of the abandoned lines. I was able to include in the abstract to help the examiner and others trying to read the difficult descriptions contained in railroad deeds. (they use “engineer points” not survey points like general land descriptions.)
I’m now fully retired and hope to go back and find info or photos on relatives that lived in El Reno, including my great grandfather that was sexton of the cemetery for 16 years beginning in 1909. My grandmother was born there in 1904, before statehood. I may find lots of interesting things.

When my grandfather passed he was Mr Rock Island, I donated all his Rock Island items. Yes this is a wonderful place to visit and somewhat understand El Reno. Please allow time to see all the buildings you won't be sorry. We have donated the 2 Star Flag from WW II to the Museum along with Roblyer memorabilia. Main feature is Mr Leslie F Roblyer.
We love our El Reno.

We stopped here on our Route 66 journey. We were greeted by the marvelous Pat, in vintage attire. She has been apart of the museum for 49 years. What a jewel! She was preparing for a local school group but spent time with us to share some of the many wonders and local history in the museum. We were even introduced to the students when they came in. Now that was special! You can take your own pace and spend hours looking at all the many and various items this museum holds. Don't miss the Red Barn with its barbed wire exhibit!!!

This site is surprisingly high in quality for an attraction that is labelled as a county museum and gets relatively little publicity. We strolled the grounds, found much to admire, and took lots of photos. Highly recommended.

We had the most enjoyable visit! The volunteers welcomed us in. The museum is full of neatly displayed and well-marked artifacts. My family loved all of the displays. I especially enjoyed the old photographs and tin types. Outdoors there is more to see. You are able to walk into each of the many historical buildings. They actually have the cabin that was General Philip Sheridan's headquarters. The highlight of the trip was a ride on the trolley. Our trolley guide was wonderful. He gave us loads of interesting information about the town. At the end, he even let us each blow the trolley whistle. This museum is a must see!

Interesting museum that has lots of items from the history of El Reno and county. Probably more interesting to the railroad and train enthusiast. Several buildings out side too. You get your trolly tickets at this location. Trolly only runs a few times a day so check the schedule. We missed it but it looked like lots of fun. This museum is worth about an hour or so to visit.

This did not look much but inside they have masses of memorabilia from the past. Interesting to learn of the drawings and the run for land. An interesting man also showed us the model train in action. The school house was interesting and the red barn contains another jumbled mass of collection, most completely un-curated. Worth the stop and free but we wanted to make a good donation.

It is a nice, local museum. If you enjoy railroad items in particular it would be ok. The trolley runs a few times during the day so be sure to check that schedule before you go. We missed it by a few minutes. A trip to El Reno should include an onion burger and then a trip to Ft. Reno. The Museum, trolley, onion burgers, and Ft. Reno should be a good one day outing from Tulsa.
