I have been to two military funerals at the Fort Gibson Cemetary and both were moving experiences. The park has always been a beautifully cared for cemetery/landmark. Very obvious the pride put into all the work around the cemetery. In the back corner there is a nice rock covered area which is ideal for a ceremony. Very sobering to be here. It’s only perhaps around 50 acres, but there appear to be well over 10,000 graves here, plus many remains in a memorial wall as well. If you are ever in the area, come visit this historic and honoring site for our veterans.

This is the most amazing place of honor for our Veterans. I had the honor of picking up the wreaths that were laid out at Christmas time. This is always a clean place and well kept.

A beautiful cemetery. Always kept top notch. A place to visit, your lived ones, grave. There are chimes at times. There is now, a very nice brick outdoor funeral service area, it is kept very clean & beautiful.
You can do a computer search, for your friend or relative's grave. On National Holidays such as Memorial day, Veterans, 4th of July; beautiful Flags are placed on each grave & throughout the cemetery. Very lovely & patriotic. Great for pics.

If you are in eastern Oklahoma, a visit to the National Cemetery in Fort Gibson should be a must do on your list.
You can stop in for a quick drive through the immaculate grounds, or take a walk through the graves and spend much more time contemplating the sacrifice of all those who have their final resting place there.
Regardless, you and your family will be blessed for having spent the time honoring those who served our country and protected our freedoms even though they had no idea who we are.

I was here doing a full honor funeral for deceases retiree for the first time at this cemetery. Once youre on the trail of honor you can feel it. The layout was well organized and all the workers working everyday to maintain the area. It is a place to go and pay respect for those who come and went... stop by and take a silent for a minute or two....

My friends and I visited on a beautiful summer day, July 4th. I was impressed with all the American flags flying, the neatly manicured gravesites, and the historical circle of graves of prominate people and soldiers from the mid 1800's. I left with a patriotic feeling and proud of these people who have served our country.

My husband was a 100% disabled veteran and passed in 2011. I have his ashes. However, he wanted his cremains to be buried “in the ground” and have an upright headstone. Is this possible to have if I, perhaps, purchased a casket into which I put his cremains? He did not want a niche.
