Stopped going because it was worse and worse every year after 1998.
To much white guys selling junk and trinkets inside and out. Dancing and attendance not what it what when we were going in 89 and 90. Use to look forward to it and would not miss. Sad

The venue was perfect for the event. Large convention center with easy parking access below the building. The dance/music event took place in the auditorium and the adjacent hall was used for all the artists, jewelry, and other participants. There was also a small hall for food vendors with limited items to select.
Now here is my review....
It was my first time there and I loved watching the dancers of all ages, their brilliant dresses and drum presentation. It was worth the admission price.
The stands and jewelry was okay but I was expecting more traditional wear, crafts, etc.
The food was on par but no traditional flat breads were offered inside the venue.
My son bought a traditional flute from Paul Hacker. He was very engaging and helpful. His flute was the highlight of the venue.
Based on my wife, who visited this festivity 20 years ago, this festival was only a tenth of the size it used to be. Hopefully it does not shrink any further.
Now here is my review....

The most beautiful dress for the grand entry. The children’s competition is so cute and they all work hard to show each tribes authentic style and culturethey had a new booth where you could take unusual items to be identified and or valued. There is so much to see each day that you never see the same thing twice (unless you want to). If you’ve ever been interested in Indian culture, this is not to be missed

Loved the dancers, drums, & singing. Loved that it was basically indoors. Great artistic venue - prices a little steep for our budget. Dancers courteous and willing to have pictures taken. Artists very willing to explain how creations made. Only wish when tickets purchased would have been given a program of day, time, & location at venue where things going on. Since did include Myraid Gardens as part of venue location a map of where in the gardens what was. Myraid Gardens had several other venues going on in it at the same time that wasn't part of the Pow Wow. Preferably publish the info on website and state parking areas especially for out of town/state visitors coming to the event.

Amazing culture and wonderful experience. Beautiful bead work and costumes. The music is wonderful and nothing like you can experience like in Oklahoma.

Nice place to visit and experience native Indian dance and culture. Also lots of vendors to buy stuff from. Many artists bring hand made jewelry and other items.

Although smaller than I expected, I loved every minute of it, from the parade to the art show to the dancing. I really enjoyed the food, which was delicious and like nothing I have ever had.

if you want to learn the culture of Oklahoma, this is the festival you need to attend.. most if not all of hte tribes of Oklahoma and America are represented and the native american dancing is awesome.., must see

The Red earth festival is a great example of what happens when people get greedy. When Red earth first started it focused on being a Native American festival comparable to any other in the country. The dancing catered to the participants and the art market competed with the likes of Santa Fe. It quickly fell from a celebration of Native America to how much money can we make off of it. The location moved from the Civic Center to the Fairgrounds and participation suffered along with admission so they brought it back to the downtown where it remains. However, participation is only limited to prize money and the national spectators no longer come.

Although the Red Earth organization normally conducts a parade in downtown OK City on Friday to begin the festival, the event I referred to was held indoors Saturday at the Cox Convention Center right after lunch. There was a scheduled break in the program, and a "Grand Entry" was done in the main judging arena next to the food court.
