This was a really nice art museum & great way to spend a couple of hours. The 1920s estate belonged to Waite Phillips who was the Philips 66 oil magnate. It was made to replicate an Italian villa complete with beautiful gardens. He & his wife later moved out of the home and donated it to the city as an art museum which opened in 1939.
We enjoyed the unique art, the villa and the grounds which were beautiful. We had just missed an installation of Monet paintings, unfortunately! There’s also a cafeteria inside near the entrance which makes a nice stop for a snack after (or before) touring the museum & grounds.

The original 30,000+ square foot home is fabulous as are the grounds, we were more impressed with the home and grounds than the artwork inside! They have a couple of Andrew Wyeths but I really didn’t see any other well known artists. There was one room closed off due to damage from a really bad storm here in late June - we saw a lot of downed trees, tarps on roofs, etc. in the area still. A shame that it was dreary and raining outside as it would have been fun to walk around the grounds. House on 3 acres and they own another 27 acres.

My wife and I have visited quite a few art museums in a number of cities, including Boston, NYC, Minneapolis, Cleveland and Kansas City. Based on others we've seen, this has a unique character. The artwork and subject matter is weighted towards Native American artists and art, which is appropriate to the location. If you are a fan of Native American art and/or artists, you don't want to miss this one!
The house itself is spectacular. Hard to believe a family could live in such a place, but also interesting that the father donated the home as a museum shortly after building it. The grounds are beautiful and the walking trails are nice.
There are some beautiful pieces here, including a Picasso. While not as comprehensive as some larger galleries, it is well worth the visit!

An absolutely amazing experience in Tulsa. A huge and impressive collection of art in a stunning, Italian style mansion. The gardens are very impressive and easy to stroll around.

really, really pretty stuff. there was something close to a true 50:50 male to female gender ratio of people here which was really nice to see. the gardens were peaceful and whimsical. and the house, made out like a palace, was incredible as well. one of those places where you don’t know which to focus on the art on the walls or the building itself. very, very busy, most of the year i would imagine if that matters to you though.

Beautiful and a must see. No idea this was in Tulsa, but after taking a tour of downtown we had to visit. So glad we did- you feel like you’re at a palace in Europe. Love the Waite Phillips story, and the beautiful art in this museum

I've wanted to visit for years, and the Philbrook did not disappoint. The grounds are beautiful, even in late winter.

There is so much to see both inside and outside. The hidden gem is the surrounding paths on the grounds. You could easily spend over an hour outside alone.

My daughter and I were in town for a wedding and decided to check out the museum as they were currently hosting works from Rembrandt, Monet and Renoir. The museum experience did not disappoint. The building and grounds are stunning in itself…add in all of the fantastic works of art and you have an incredibly memorable experience. If you are in Tulsa, this is a must do!!

What a hidden gem. The grounds are absolutely amazing and they had some really interesting art…not sure I’m a fan of Frida Kahlo…it doesn’t help that she reminds if was the global gym female player in dodgeball….and she was on special exhibit but otherwise it was a nice collection

Polo Grill has private rooms. Best place in Tulsa. It’s in nearby Utica Square

Yes, there are several areas that you can stroll through when the museum is closed. The grounds are extremely beautiful as well.

How much time should be allowed for going through this museum?

At any museum, the amount of time someone needs varies by person. Having said that though, it is not a huge place. There are really just three floors of exhibits, all on the smaller side. An hour inside is ample time. We spent the majority of our time outside, exploring the statues, rocks and gardens. I would say to allow an hour and a half for outdoors. Unless you picnic or take a nap somewhere, you won't be there any more than four hours.
