The carousel worker told my 8 year old child that if he was "too big" he needed to get off the carousel horse when asking for help buckling the belt that wouldn't clasp. The issue was not that he was too big, the issue was that the seatbelt would not clasp. When the worker made him move to the benches for being too big the other kids on the ride laughed and pointed making it that much worse for my little boy.
When I called to speak with the "Attractions Manager" about this he said his employee was following policy. He said the weight limit is 175lbs- which my child weighs nowhere near as he is 8 YEARS OLD. He wouldn't listen to my frustrations and interrupted several times to assure me this was "policy" and that they don't have to help with the equipment because it doesn't belong to the zoo. He also admitted that he had another call earlier about an 11 year old the exact same thing happened to today. He kept saying that what he heard was my kid was too big and that is simply not the case.
I don't know how your worker belittling children about their weight is "policy" but from now on my policy is to go somewhere that my kid won't leave in tears and self-conscious because of an adult bully that is backed by their employers backward policies.
It's sad that we paid as much as we did and drove as far as we did to see the animals and it was such a a frustrating experience. I just want other mamas to be aware!

I grew up going to this zoo, as did my dad (and probably my grandparents too.) The zoo has been around since 1927 with some of the exhibits stil in use being built by the WPA during the Great Depression.
My latest visit was last week and I was disappointed by how many pens had no animals in them. We went to the fancy, new elephant area - no elephants. Luckily there were 2 in the old pen, but why open the building if no animals have been moved over yet?
This zoo is heavy on reptiles and birds.
No polar bear anymore, didn't see any zebras, didn't see any lions. I noticed that the glass was very dirty and hard to see into the pens.
The sheer amount of screaming and kids banging on the glass was unreal. The animals are better behaved than the humans at the zoo. I wish that like the Toronto Zoo, the Tulsa Zoo would put up signs about the importance of being quiet because it stresses out the animals.
Most of the animals were in a corner hidden from view in their pens or at least as far away from spectators as they could get. I can see why the animals are stressed when people don't believe in parenting their screaming-banshee-sounding kids.
This zoo is very affordable and they allow outside food and drinks. It took us just 2 hours to see everything, although we skipped the children's zoo - which is apparently the petting zoo + river otters.
We were bummed about missing the otters and the polar bear.

I was pleasantly surprised by this zoo. Great variety of animals and for the most part well kept. Would definitely go again.

The zoo took 3 hours to walk the entire zoo several animals were not on exhibit. Several animal enclosures were quite small for the animals they house. It would be a good little zoo for the locals to go and see animals every weekend but not really a tourist destination

This was a wonderful zoo! We stopped on our mini road trip and the kids (16 and 9) enjoyed it thoroughly. It was easy to get around and there are a lot of animals to see! We stayed for about 3 or 4 hours and I don't think we got to see quite everything, but most of it. The paths are well maintained and the animals look as if they are cared for very well. We enjoyed out trip and will stop again if we are out in the area!

We enjoyed our visit but we had to keep doubling back. Some areas were blocked off so it became confusing. We ate lunch there and the food was surprisingly good.

We as a family like to visit zoo's. My kids did enjoy this one, well designed, pleanty of animals. Just a great experience overall.

As a prior zookeeper for over 20 years. I can attest that the Tulsa Zoo is run and maintained by superior supervision in all situations. I will succumb to the fact that security can be handled better than it has been. As the zoo progresses, we hope that security will strive to continual.
Animal management continues to excel at an all time high. The Tulsa Zoo continually excel all animal excels all levels.

Went to the zoo by myself with an audio book and it was a perfect day! I went around noon and it wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be. The gift shop is also fairly priced!

This zoo is older and somewhat run down. The animals seemed sparse. There is a train to ride which is always fun for kids. The best part is the gigantic playground which was full of wonderful climbing, swinging and jumping equipment. Lots of picnic tables for parents to sit and visit while kids play.

According to their website—
All zoo guests are required to make a reservation online for the date of their choice.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
Last entry is at 2:59 p.m.
Guests will be admitted during the first hour of their reservation window.
Example, guests who purchase tickets for 10 a.m. may enter from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
