“Interesting hill”

Breathtaking View

We were staying at Wister State Park and went into Poteau for a few supplies. We made the trip up the winding road to the top. It had been raining on and off and the clouds against the blue sky were beautiful.
No walking required. You can drive right up to the sign.

With the little drive that it takes.

We were in the area and decided it was something that we had to do. It is less than 5 miles from town. Now I know the definition of a hill as well as a mountain. It was raining and the place was socked in with cloud cover, but I am still glad we made the drive. Hill is less than 2000 feet.

Tallest Hill in the World!

Great place to show out of town visitors the layout of Poteau and surrounding area from the top of Cavanal Hill! My friends all love it!

Worth the drive

Decided to drive upto the viewing point after dinner. Easy to find and it is signposted. Road is windy and in places a bit bumpy but nothing to worry about. View was great and just getting dark so Poteau looked great below us. Saw a couple of deer on the way down in the dark so drice carefully!

I just had to see this so we did, bad roads and all. I am not sure how exactly this is the world's highest hill so I feel a little dumb. Pretty view. Check that off my list

I was in FAR eastern Oklahoma for a running event, probably be more apt to be in Fort Smith, Arkansas and do this, but this is a "Must Do". Poteau is a very nice town with nice people....worth a visit to.

Great view of the area, wrong direction for the sunset.

We came up to see the view which we enjoyed. Nothing spectacular, but enjoyable. The view is facing east, so you’ll miss the sunset, but if your an early riser, the sunrise is probably amazing . It needs to be picked up, trash is beginning to collect. No bathrooms.

Beautiful overlook

Roads were fine to this location but are definitely switchbacks. Its relatively clean and was super nice to look over the edge at Poteau below.

Road getting to this sign are bad, the potholes in it and the park entrance are a joke.

Terrible roads, drive and parking are a joke, there is nothing here when you do arrive, what a waste of time and effort to see the highest hill when nothing is here when you arrive...... BF II

Interesting hill

We were camping at Lake Wister State Park. Someone at the park suggested this was a neat thing to see. It has a long windy 2/lane road to get to the top of the hill. It's pretty cool to look out over the city. There are a few picnic tables there and on a hot day in July there was a nice breeze. There is a small pavilion. No restroom facilities though.
