Hiking is good

We came across a rude park ranger who looked menacing. This place has nice hiking trails but one very bad park ranger.

Beautiful river trail

While intending to visit Tumalo Falls, I stopped at Tumalo State Park thinking that the Tumalo Falls is in the State Park. After driving through the campground and talking with a Park Ranger, I came to know that the main feature in the park is the Deschutes River Trail. Since I had already paid the entrance fee at the day-use entrance, I decided to explore the trail. The Deschutes River Trail is 12 miles long, but the section in the State Park is listed as 2.4 miles long. Trail signs are not quite clear at the trailhead (at day use parking area), and it took me a little wandering to find the trail. We get great views of the gorge and the river over most of the hike. One lovely feature is a new catwalk across a tumble of large boulders. This is a popular trail as I noted from the other hikers on the trail even for a week day and people fishing on the river's edge. I didn't find many mile markers along the trail. But the trail makes for a beautiful hike along the river.

Tumalo State Park is worth a visit for the beautiful and enjoyable river hike. But, better signage will be a great help in finding the trailhead.

Gorgeous even in the middle of winter

My family and I were just passing through on our way to Portland and decided to stop by the park before dinner. The park is beautiful. They have benches out and it would be a great place to bring a picnic. I saw a trail but I am not sure how far it goes. We will be back next month and would love to come explore a little more!

Nice campground near Bend

We chose this campground for its proximity to Bend, and really enjoyed our quick stay here. Our site was right next to the river, and while there wasn't much privacy on one side, the other side was all greenery. The bathroom was small, but adequate. We would definitely stay here again if we're in the area!

Tumalo exceeded my expectations

I have never been disappointed in an Oregon State Park and Tumalo is no exception. This state park exceeded my expectations.

I love to hike and this park has the trails to make my experience memorable for all the right reasons.

Tumalo Stat3 Park- I stayed at a tent site. RV and Tent sites are large and some offer a great deal of privacy. Tent site for two nights plus reservation fee of $8 came to $50. Tumalo has no dump site. Clean bathrooms and showers. Cell service was one or two bars depending on location in the park. Spotless bath/shower rooms and hot water in for hand washing in the sinks. Great playground for the children.

Hiking trails are some of the best and along the river. I was there during the week in May and yet the river had people fishing, paddle boarders, rafters and folks in inner tubes. I was shocked to see people in the swim area. You can burn your own wood as long as it was purchased in Oregon. Wood is spendy at $1 per piece of kiln dried wood that burns like kindling.

A wonderful park to hike

This is an absolutely lovely state park located in the city of Bend, and a great place to spend the day hiking! It was only $5 to park for the day which I thought was very reasonable!

I spent about two hours at this park, but you could easily spend the whole day! I choose one hike, the Canyon Loop Trail. I'd say it was a moderate level hike, and very scenic along the river, tall rocks and forest. I saw an otter and many small birds. It was not too crowded on the Saturday I visited. There is very helpful signage along the trail so you do not get lost. It was chilly but sunny and a perfect day to hike.

Quiet, frustrating, afternoon

Very pretty park, not very big, looked like a great place to take a book for an afternoon or tube the creek that went thru it. A number of people were having fun tubing. Very peaceful and relaxing. Only problem we had was the Oregon information people told us the Tumalo falls was here. IT IS NOT-it is 15 miles west of here. Frustrating!

Great campground and day use area conveniently located near Bend

This a very nice and well maintained campground close to Bend and the Deschutes River. There is also a day use area with a lot of space to hang out next to the river. The river was fun to float on too.

I love this place

It’s open year round and is always kept nice. I’ve camped in the hot summer and also getting snowed in during winter. The hosts are very nice as well.
