Pilot Butte is an interesting landmark right in the middle of Bend. The view from the top is spectacular and there are displays that identify surrounding mountains off in the distance. The trail to the top is paved and safe. There's also a road so you can drive to the top if someone isn't able to hike uphill. It is definitely worth experiencing.

You need to walk in order to get to this place. You need good shoes. Car park area needs better cleaning.

Old cinder cone, close to Bend downtown.
You can hike up and around, there are three trails.
Or you just may use the summit road, very convenient.
Up there you have an impressive panoramic view of Bend, the high desert and the snowcapped Cascade mountains.
Well worth a visit.

Short 1 mile hike to the top of this volcanic cone in the city. Not too steep. Nice 360 degree view of the city and mountains. Two trails - one paved road track and one sandy/gravel so can go up one and down the other. Parking available.

We always take friends to the top when they visit for the first time, and frequently walk up the trail and road for a good short workout. If at all possible, WALK, don't drive - there is little parking at the top, and cars are a detriment to the much more plentiful hikers.

what a great hike, about 3 miles, but the first part out of the parking lot was not paved, but the trail met up with the paved roadway, and it was amazing, steep in parts, but the views were breathtaking, or was that my out of shape body telling me otherwise. this only took about 2 hours, including time at the top for the rest of us to catch out limited breaths. a must do..

This is a nice hike up a butte with a beautiful view as a reward when you get to the top. If you want a wooded, forested, lush hike, this isn't it. It's a desert, rocky, dirt hike, but it's in the high desert, so ya know. Worth it at least once. Good exercise.

every day we walked there with my entire family, good to walk and do some work out, clean and nice neighborhood, close to mall area, and your kids will love it , congratulation for the police man and the gardeners thy do an excellent job .

We hiked up the road which was in the sun and a steady grade. It was tougher than I expected for a trail ranked as easy on AllTrails. Hiked down the dirt trail and it was more scenic and shaded and less steep.
The 360 degree view was worth the 1.2 mile hike. Appreciated the signs that pointed out each of the peaks in the distance. Stunning!

Sorry for the delay in responding, but don’t have much to contribute because we drive to the top and parked...(wimps.). We did see people of all ages walking and, while all uphill, just take your time. 😊

If you start from the trailhead parking lot, time wise 30 minutes or less each direction. Just Under 2 miles round trip.

'lat long pilot butte bend or' I Googled it; seems to have all the answers these days...
It thinks the coordinates are a website I guess:
fourty four pt 0607 N and 121 pt 2834 degree W.
...and I'll try doing it this way too:
