Here you'll find the work of local and international artists, depending on the show. There are also printing presses and opportunities to take classes on printing and paper/book arts

This is an interesting and accessible facility. In addition to the exhibit space, there is a huge workspace in the back where they teach printmaking to everyone from preschoolers to adults. Some classes are series and some more of a make and take. Watch the Bend Bulletin for classes in the Thursday GO! magazine. They are a 501c3 organization. You can also purchase student work at reasonable prices.
I was there with visitors for the Curtis exhibit which was truly amazing. It's difficult to believe the quality of the photos given the equipment he used. They had one of the cameras from that era there and plates used for printing. It is well worth a visit to see this amazing slice of the past. Unfortunately the Curtis exhibit closed 10-31, but I'll be going to see what comes next.

Bend is very fortunate to have the Edward Curtis exhibit through October in cooperation with the Deschutes Library, Author, Author series featuring Timothy Egan this October.

Step from the 19th century to the 20th century with Edward Curtis as he opens the door on The North American Indian through creation of his 20 volume magnum opus. This was an era intense preservation of America’s last remaining wild lands and includes a pantheon of American greats of the movement including Teddy Roosevelt, Bird Grinnell, the founder of the Audubon Society, C. Hart Merriam, co-founder of the National Geographic Society, Gifford Pinchot and others. Edward Curtis was introduced to the American Indians through Bird Grinnell and that introduction led to the pictures on display through the month of October at A6 in Bend, Oregon. While most preservation saw the raw western landscaping disappearing Edward a young Seattleite who had a very successful photography studio in Seattle saw the loss of a way of life of Native Americans disappearing as an overlooked issue. He was smitten with the idea of documenting the lives of the North American Indians before their century old traditions were lost forever. You can view 50 of these original prints at A6 but I suggest you can incorporate a visit to the High Desert Museum in Bend where you can view an entire 20 volume set (under glass) and view additional original prints.
I recommend Timothy Eagan’s book Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher- The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis in conjunction with a visit.
