Easy to ride here from Downtown Bend - tons of trails for all abilities! We rode up Bens and linked together with lots of great ones, including the fun Lower Whoops!

A mountain bike trail system built by mountain bikers. Some of the best Bend's rides are located within this trail system. Typically "butter" smooth trails with lots of added features to keep one self entertained. From green to black rides are offered here and fun for the whole family. Climbing is straight forward and fairly easy with some interesting challenges and the downhills are just superb with flowing curves, table tops and jumps galore.

We loved our time riding on the trails around Phil’s Trailhead! All sorts of trails start/end here for all types of riders who want any distance. Strongly recommend Whoops for fun, loopy, swooshy riding. Be careful of COD - parts of it are VERY rocky and challenging. Ben’s, Phil’s, Kent’s - all wonderful. Intersections are well-marked; easy to follow whatever path(s) you want to take.

These trials, just west of Bend, OR are good for the whole family and still have some tough spots to make an expert feel entertained. I find them plenty safe, well marked, and one can create infinite combinations for hours of fun. Anything from a hardtail to an enduro bike can be used here. Plus, there's a rhythm park and jump runs for beginners or experts. The downside is the traffic can be a bit much during high use times, but early or later in the morning or evening, I have been content with my experience. Plus, there is no shortage of bike shops in the area to help you fix your bike or use a demo bike.

Lots of options around the beginning. Good for all people at all levels: green, blue, black. We went back down Lower Whoops and that was super fun. Make sure you pack enough water especially if it’s hot. Get a map at the local bike shop.

This is a favorite mtn biking trail for us. The high chaperell is stunning and there are degrees of difficulty of routes. It’s a good 2 hour ride for us.

I am going to review this as a mountain bike centric review.
I did about a 30 mile ride out of Phil'd trailhead. You could turn this into a 60-80 mile ride if you wanted. I road up mid way into the system , which is shared with cross country ski trails in the winter. I recommend getting higher up into the trail system - the ecology completely changes - much wetter, denser forest & completely different feel. General thoughts on the system:
• Very well designed trails - you can tell they were designed by mob trail riders with lots of thought on lay out to make a fun riding experience.
• Great connectivity / stacked loops. With the stacked loop system, you can design a ride to fit your time / goal for ride time / distance.
• System connects from the edge of Bend all the way up to Mt Bachelor. Great potential for epic long rides.
• Most green & blue trails are pretty non-technical; Most black trails are technical but not ridiculously technical.
• All in all, I would say this is definitely a location to visit if you are a mtn biker. If you want to really explore this system, I would allocate at least 3 days & plan on 20-30 miles per day to really explore the system. In reality, you could probably easily spend a week here exploring the trails.

There's currently logging happening in the area of some of the trails, so they are closed on weekdays. There's still plenty of trails open, but they are quite busy, even on a weekday in mid October. There is some signage about this, but its still a bit confusing to tourists.
Some trails are now one way only which is a good thing, but if you don't ride like a maniac on the downhill portions, expect to have to get off the trails repeatedly to let others by. Trails continue to be well maintained, but can still be dusty.
The parking area has been dramatically enlarged since my last visit to the area.
Its easy access from Bend to these fun trails, but there are plenty of other options a short distance away that offer better views and less distractions from other riders.

The trails at Phils are well marked, mostly flat and not very challenging, but they are worth riding for even the most basic mountain bikers. When we rode their last year, we had the place to ourselves.

we did the route from Swampy to Phil's to town mountain biking with Cog Wild Shuttles. It is very dry at the end of July.
