Great place to take kids

Dana took us (grandparents with two seven year olds and a ten year old) on the tour of this unique rock museum. It was thoroughly interesting and enjoyable for all of us. This family-built rock structure is unlike anything you will see elsewhere. There are so many fascinating details included you could spend a long time here and still not see it all. Dana was a great guide and really held the kids attention.

This is an iconic piece of Oregon history kept by one family in stone. It is a unique structure showing family history, collectable rocks and stones. Kids will enjoy it for a short time. But it is worth the quick drive off the highway. The religious aspect is very simple and never intrustive or pushy. I loved the rocks so we stayed about 40 minutes. Nice break on a long drive. Donation for entry.

The Singular Vision of an Extraordinary Family

This is the most amazing, unique, out-of-the-way, astonishing mixed-media bible-based art you'll ever find outside a traditional museum. As another reviewer mentioned, visiting Living Rock Studios is an experience. These truly lovely women have lots of great stories to tell -- but if you're awkward with people, you can pass! They offer a tour alone when you walk in.

This is the most bizarre place I've ever visited. Go in and there are 3 old folks who want to share their father with you. In Christianity. Rocks, slices of rocks, scenes in rocks from the bible, a most amazing place for sure, tour led by a woman who's idea of god is her father. There is a lot of history here, and an amazing structure, can't say this is a bad place, but if you want to visit a really weird place, this is the place to go. Before the oldies die off. They're amazing too. I've rated it excellent because you will never have an experience like this again in your life.

Unique

Totally unique experience. The original owner built the place out of all the rocks he collected. The tree inside was made out of petrified wood. There are small rooms filled with rocks and, scattered displays. Upstairs is the main display, and there are hand painted bird pictures and small cases with Oregon artifacts. There is a religious theme that runs through the place. The caretakers are older ladies that were very nice and happy to talk with you as you walked. There is a suggested donation. Very unique and original.

Very Interesting

You get off I-5 go a couple miles it is right before you get to Brownsville. It is an odd looking cement and rock structure attached awkwardly to a house. We park and get out of the car an locate the door, there is a sign to ring the doorbell. We do and nothing seems to happen. We try the door it is unlocked but the inside is dark. There is a lobby that has lots of rocks for sale. A little old lady appears and I apologize for coming in and she told me no you did it exactly right. She was in the house and comes into the rock part when people come, She was very kind and explains that the Rock studio was her fathers vision and the whole family helped him build it.
There are some really neat things to be seen here .Her father created religious works out of rocks that are like paintings or stained glass the rocks were cut thin and pieced together to make really fantastic works of art. The Staircase of the building is really fantastic. The vision of the building was to be a tree of life and part of it are neat others are kind of a mess. There is a large amount of personal family history of the owners in the studio that is really neat (old bibles and old survey equipment) There are a lot of bird painting which are not really great works of art, a lot of hand carved wood items which were really impressive. It is basically a mishmash of a mans hobbies .
The lady explained that the Studio is a mission work and has been open for 30years! it is clear that the family's are strong believers, but do not let that run you off as the talk never got preachy in any way she just shows you the objects. This was a real interesting place that had such a unusual grouping of objects I highly recommend that if you are near to stop in and look.
It appeared that children are quite welcome to come here. It is free but we gave the suggested donation of 3 dollars each ,but it was clear we did not have to.
