Stub Stewart State Park is a good base camp for biking the Banks-Vernonia State Trail, which crosses the entrance to the park, near the highest point in the trail. The park also has many hiking trails, steep in places, with an expansive territorial view from the upper day use area. The campsites are spacious and quiet.

When we first came here, the grounds were pretty barren. Many years later, it has trees and looks much nicer. Kinda what you would expect from an Oregon campground. But where are the trash receptacles? Not one in Dairy Creek West. Woulda been a 5 not for that.

We camp in a trailer here from Wa. and just love it. It is a peaceful park with great views. It has a great walking path in the forest. About the only thing negative is the limited internet, which could be good! Be sure to go to the top of the park and have a picnic.

very quiet and relaxing place. Only an hour from the beach. The town of Vernonia is a super cute little logging town, with lots of things to do there.

This is our second time here and we love it. The camp sites are wide and clean. Big picnic tables and gracious park hosts.
The bicycle trail here is easy to ride, paved, and goes from Banks to Vernonia. LL Stub Stewart is located about the mid point between the two towns so you can go either north or south.
They also have a 18 hole disc golf course, and a 3 hole practice course by the campsites.
We've seen deer here several times and walking through our campsite. Also a great place for star gazing.

This State Park is just 35 miles from Portland and offers very nice campsites, including rustic walk-in sites, and good hiking and biking trails. I camped there for three nights while attending a wedding outside Portland. Nice bathrooms with showers and pretty views from a number of locations.

This State Park covers allot of land and is a great place to take the family for camping, hiking, biking, and geocaching. We previously stayed in Cabins 7 & 8 and didn't like their location. This time we rented Cabins 14 & 15 and liked the privacy much better. The cabins are heated and have lights which is a real plus in case it rains. If you want to see the mountain views, rent Cabins 11-13. The bathroom had soap only for a short time. Plan on packing your trash out with you...they have an area to drop it off on your way out. If you like to geocache, there are quite a few good ones. They also have a great camp for horses with a corral for each campsite. Nice place to take the family.

We enjoyed hiking around the trails, and would've biked except mine was stolen from another state park. It's close proximity SW of Portland makes it an easy drive to some fun trails.

Been here two days and have hiked all over the trails. Very happy with the ease of access and choices to be had. Even with the rain some trails are graveled nicely, others are still being improved. RV and camp sites are very nice and all is kept clean. Plenty of space for just about anyone's needs. Great for families.

As part of a family vacation to the Redwoods area & the Oregon coast, we booked a 2 night stay in a cabin located in Stub Stewart. Let me tell you, at $44 USD a night, this place can't be beat! The cabin village is located near the top of a winding road, with hiking trails & great views of the area at your doorstep. The cabins themselves are basic, with no kitchen or bathroom facilities, but there is a central bathroom complex (including showers) in the parking lot area only a short walk from the cabins. Each cabin also comes with its own picnic table & firepit, so just bring your cooking gear & you're all set. There are a few small towns within a 20 minute drive should you need supplies, & Portland itself is about an hour's drive. Highly recommended for a weekend away from the city or as part of a larger vacation.

Stub Stewart State Park is in the coastal range between Portland and the Pacific, known for wet weather from Fall through early spring. The rains tend to taper off in April, with average 100mm (4 inches) of rain for the month. The average high fpr Vernonia, the nearest town, is 15C (60F) and the lows are still near freezing (2C/35F)j. The park is 150 meters (500 ft) higher elevation, so expect a bit colder nights. We were there in September, when the weather was very mild.
