The fish hatchery was, in the past, a great place to take visitors to see the fish being raised and walk along the Metolius River. No longer! The facilities at the hatchery are in a shocking state of disrepair. The bridge to the facility is closed to cars. Not sure why. The bathrooms are closed and two portable toilets are placed in front. Neither portable toilet has been serviced in months, rendering them unusable.
For a state-owned facility, it was shocking. New fish tanks are being built but the prior tanks are roped off, rotting in place. Where there used to be lawn and picnic tables, there is just dry dirt. I don’t know what has happened, but the hatchery needs to be closed down if it can’t be kept in better condition. An embarrassment for the state.

We came here on a Thursday morning and it was mostly empty - pretty much had it to ourselves. The kids loved looking at the fish and we also fed the trout in the lake and watched the geese. We also took a quick side-trip on the trail that goes to the river. There are additional trails along the river, not sure how far you can go, but there's lots of places to hike or fish. An incredible bonus was a bald eagle alighting from a tree as we got near - it was amazing! The little lake there attracts all manner of bird predators, so plenty to see. There are bathrooms on site (but no soap when we were there - bring your hand sanitizer!)

The fish hatchery is very interesting. The hatchery provides a number of species of fish to the waters of Central Oregon. The trout in the settling pond are enormous. They have coin operator fish food dispensers that allow you to feed these beautiful trout. Hiking along the Metolius River is accessible all around the hatchery. It is truly a beautiful setting.

This is a wonderful visit to see a well staffed fish hatchery next to one of the most beautiful rivers in the country. Here you have a chance to view trout in all stages of life, with one bin full of huge linkers. The fly fishing is really good here if you are interested.

This place was so neat to see! Free roaming was nice and it was a really neat spot to stop and see the fish in all stages of life. I would go again!

Beautiful area surrounded by trees. Good signage some places. We didn't get to ask questions so we didn't know which kind of fish were in which bin. So many many fish! There was a fun overflow pond where you could feed the fish.

It was interesting to visit and see fish at various stages of being raised. One of our favorites was watching small fish trying to jump upstream into the water flowing into the large pens. It is located in a very scenic location right along the river. You can either drive in or hike along the river from Lower Canyon Creek Campground, about 2.5 miles by trail.

This is a beautiful location! The hatchery is very clean and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. When I visited they had bright blue trout in one of the raceways. The staff member told me that these fish had come from the Metolius River.

They have made many improvements since our last visit. The grounds are beautiful. The workers/rangers are very friendly and informative.
