Really loved this hike. Although we can see the evidence of the 2017 Eagle Creek fire, the area has recovered sufficiently to afford a pleasant journey to the real payoff: the gorgeous Dry Creek Falls. (Dry Creek was apparently so-named when water was diverted for a municipal water project, but has since been restored and is quite moist! :-) The falls are surrounded by impressive basalt cliffs.
This is not a difficult hike, although you do feel that you've had a good workout after. There are some loose rocks in places, and smooth dirt that one can slide on too readily, so be sure you have good shoes. Bring water, sunscreen (if you tend to burn) and snacks, and of course a camera!

The highlights of this hike were seeing the scorched trees that had survived a fire a year or two ago, and doing fine now. The trail has some roots, rocks, and mild elevation gain/descent. I did fine without poles, though, and I have a low threshold for using those. The creek was indeed mostly dry, and the waterfall was little more than a high spurt, which is to be expected for Labor Day weekend. Traffic was delightedly low.

This was a moderately difficult hike for me. Hotter than we were expecting. Lots of people and dogs, but we had a great time (and love dogs). Varying views on the way up. Seeing the resilience of the forest after the 2017 fires gives one a lot to think about. I suspect you could filter your water from the creek if there aren’t a bunch of people wading in the pool area. Probably best to carry your own. Overall great hike!

5 miles round trip to Dry Creek Falls . You can continue to hike up to Herman creek. Dry creek Falls intersects with the PCT trail. Lots of amazing views. I would rate this a easy to moderate on the scale.

For hikers, this was an easy hike. For city walkers like us, it was not easy, but certainly doable. The waterfall is hidden away and beautiful.

You will have to get to the trailhead, not much parking, but well worth it. Straight forward Trail, tough at the beginning of the climb. Battle through it and enjoy the view when you get there. Easy hike out.

The trail from Cascade Locks to Dry Creek Falls is now open. It still requires caution. Portions of the trail may have loose rocks. Portions of the trail are fire damaged.

I hiked to the gate from Cascade Locks which was a nice hike (mostly uphill to get there - about 2 miles from down town. The gate was closed as the trail had been disturbed by the fire in September but the area has thick woods with some open areas and overlooks the Columbia gorge in places.

This is a beautiful hike, I typically do 1-2 hikes/wk that are hard, 3K elevation gain etc but I like the rest of the week to be a little more mellow. The problem with that though is that the "payoffs" are usually MUCH better if you really have to work for them- a 3k elevation usually gives you beautiful views of the gorge, snow capped mountains, amazing wildflowers etc, and the easier ones are nice but no real payoff. This hike provides you with a decent enough workout, some small rolling hills, a bit of elevation and a bit of distance (about 5 miles I think) but nothing that most people can't do and it allows you to enjoy the surroundings without huffing, and yet STILL at the end you get a great payoff! The name doesn't do this waterfall any justice, it is beautiful (and far from dry) there is a nice area to splash around near the falls. I do recommend however using an app like alltrails because on the way to the trail I was focused on the car parked in the single spot across from the trailhead and completely missed the entrance to the trail and on the way down I ended up on the horse trail rather than the main trail- both times saved when I checked the app and realized I was off track!
