Good hike and history.

I love hiking out at this place. There is a large hill to the north of the parking lot for a workout and then easier walks down below the parking lot. Lots of local history and a great covered area with a spectacular view. My husband and I live close-by and go here when we are in need of talking things out.

Beautiful place for a family reunion
My family wanted to have a celebration of life for the recent passing of my father. Many relatives and friends were unable to attend the service earlier in the year held in central Oregon. Since many friends and family lived in Linn and Benton Counties I searched for a location there. I had visited Fort Hoskins park before and remembered it as a beautiful setting in both pastures and in woods. I needed a place that would accommodate about 50-60 people and this fit the bill. There is a covered picnic area with lots of picnic tables, which had a huge two-sided island in the middle for a buffet line, and two large BBQ area just outside it. Always unsure of the weather in April, I wanted to make sure that we had a covered spot to keep out us out of the rain. This park also had very nice bathrooms, which is a must for a large group.
Since this is a Benton County park, you must reserve it through their parks department and abide by their rules, but it was very simple and pretty inexpensive. There are hiking trails and the view is gorgeous. As it turned out, the weather was beautiful, but bring a sweater in April! I highly recommend this park, but be sure to reserve early.

Great park for hiking, history and free fruit!

Fort Hoskins was a pre-Civil War and Civil War era fort. It is located in Hoskins near Kings Valley, Oregon. Interpretive signs tell visitors about the Native tribes the fort was designed to protect. They also tell about the Civil War soldiers stationed there and the logging history of the once thriving community that no longer exists. Hiking trails offer excellent views of the coast range and old orchards provide delicious apples during the fall. There is a beautiful covered picnic area, excellent restrooms with flush toilets and a historic home once occupied by General Philip Sheridan. You can often have the entire park to yourself. Worth a visit.

Quick rest stop

There is only one building left standing at the Fort. There are restrooms, a covered picnic area, and a few hiking trails. I wouldn't really call it a Historic Park, as there really isn't much there. But if you happen to be in the area, it's worth a quick stop in.

It's cool if you're into ghost town-type stuff
2016年10月 • 家庭
There isn't a ton of stuff to see here, but it's still interesting if you're into history. I believe that one of the installations there said that there were flowers around the ruins of the old school that were planted by the school children, but we went during a time of year when flowers were not blooming anymore, so I'm not sure if the flowers still bloom or not, What was most entertaining was all of the placards around the park that had diary entries from the soldiers who were stationed there--most of them are mainly talking about how bored they are and how it rains all the time and everything is covered in mud. lol

Fine Place for a Day

There isn't really too much here, there are a few old buildings and an "ok" hiking trail. I wasn't too impressed but this is coming from someone who has been to the Tower of London. This is a fine place to go for an afternoon.

History coming to live

A great place to experience history... Also great to have a picnic in summer, have a short hike and imagine what it must have been like when it was a busy place.

Back to pre-Civil War days
2015年7月 • 好友
Little was known about the fort until a former colleague began exploring the site and pulling together fort's history. Fort Hoskins was actively used for a short time prior to and during the Civil War. After it was decommissioned, buildings were sold and moved away, but recently the commander's home was located and moved back to its former location. A university anthropologist now devotes much time and study to the fort, and trails are well-marked to locate where enlisted men and officers lived, where they ate their meals, and were formations were held.
