This visitor center was a big surprise. It was big and had a huge selection of books, clothing and jewelry. Also it had a section filled with miniature doll houses with all the accessories needed to decorate them. There was a sizable doll collection, too. Staff was helpful in picking out a historical book of the area.

If you are anywhere near this area it is worth a side trip to see this place. Very interesting history and a fascinating building. Be sure to look straight up when you are at the center. There is a massive nest in the supports!

Our stop at the Round Barn Visitor Center was a surprising, very enjoyable experience. The outside does not reveal the delights awaiting inside. There is a huge room with a beautiful varnished log standing in the middle. The room is filled with beautiful western wear, silver spurs and other silver items, an incredible number of books and various other items, such as boot candy and glitter baseball hats.
There is also a museum filled with history and collections. There are photos of the Jenkins family history and the one of Pat Jenkins herding cattle by helicopter was especially fascinating. All in all this visitor center is well worth your time. The free coffee is a bonus.

Wow, we thought we were walking in to buy tickets to the round barn and found awesome gifts , a variety clothing and two beautiful ladies at the front counter who were happy to talk about history, the round barn and life in Eastern Oregon . What joy to meet such friendly , welcoming people . Definitely go here if you are any where near Burns , the Steens ,French glen . Etc .. a must stop ! The round barn was pretty cool too .haha no tickets needed . Great architecture .

This stop on your Harney visit is one of Oregon's State Parks. The original round barn is part of the experience and is easily assessible. The visitor center is full of books on the area, western clothing, refreshments, and a family museum. Very much worth the visit.

Surprising huge store with a family museum, western wear, snacks, books, and knickknacks. A pleasant oasis for traveling the large area.

The Round Barn is very interesting with a rich history. Worth visiting. Be sure to stop on the museum before the barn. It has a good collection of items with interesting explanations about them.

But it's more interesting than that sounds! We couldn't get inside when we were there because there was too much water but it was still worth the little drive off the highway.

My husband does history talks for a local museum in Central Oregon and he has wanted to check out the Peter French Round Barn for years!
This is a great piece of Western history! The barn itself is magnificent, but the setting is even more fantastic. Beautiful country. We heard a thunderstorm off in the distance and it was loud! It just added more to the wonder of what our previous family members endured in settling this area of the country.
We came away talking about it for the entire drive back to our camp. Don't pass it by. Watch for a little tiny sign directing you to the Round Barn. Several in our group missed it and drove into Diamond before realizing they missed the turn to the Round Barn.
Stop at the gift store, too! We picked up a lot of local history from the proprietor! He had great knowledge and the store supports the Round Barn. The store is full of QUALITY merchandise!

First, the barn. What a glorious structure! Even if you've never even ridden a horse... even if you don't really care about architecture... you should make the time to see this barn. It's nothing short of amazing.
I was there by myself, not a soul around, and enjoyed the silence of the area, broken only by the chirping of the waterfowl on the lake right next to the barn.
The visitor center is a combination of gift shop and family museum. Definitely stop in. They have some very nice merchandise for sale, in addition to the usual kitschy stuff. I had an informative discussion with the lovely older gentleman there -- about a beautiful 200 year old Spanish bit on display (I'm a horse person).
All in all, a great stop out in the middle of the desert.
