This is one of my favorite places on earth. I was studying at U of O back in the late 70's, and hadn't been back to Eugene since the early 80's so I'd been missing Hendrick's Park for about 40 years! And it is still just as heavenly as I remembered it. Worth the trip!

Hendricks Park is a garden and a walking area with trails through old growth trees.
On one side of the picnic area and across the road there is an area called the Rhododendron Garden with is filled with Rhododendron, but we were there in September so only one of them was blooming a little bit. However, there were other flowers planted there as well. It was truly a maze so even though it wasn't large, you could walk miles.
On the other side of the picnic area, there were trails leading up the hill , some steep, some more gentle, through old growth woods. The majority of the trees there are evergreens and the fragrance was intoxicating! We saw a couple of woodpeckers drilling holes in some of the old trees. There were multiple trails on that side as well, but they were not the tangled maze seen on the other side.
The roads to the park are confusing and it was very useful to have the GPS unit to find our way there. Instructions would have been inadequate.
We spent about 3 hours there, but we could have easily spent the entire day. We saw several couples lounging on the lawn soaking up the sun.
It was a great place to let down for a bit.

Seriously, don't come here. This is not the most beautiful park in all of the area. Also, these are not the droids you're looking for. Us few folks who live on properties bordering the park will grudgingly suck it up and visit this park. But yeah, don't waste your time. We got this. You go somewhere else. ;)

The home of an amazing Rhododendrons & Azalea Garden. Old growth forest and the best view in Eugene besides Skinner Butte.

Lovely place for walking, sitting, reading, anything is better among these beautiful trees and flowering plants!! The walk we took was also a wonderful day as we spotted a family of turkeys. We enjoyed the area and hope to go back and see when flowers are in bloom. I love how the trails meander. I loved seeing the other people here and there enjoying the gardens walking, reading and relaxing.

This park is absolutely beautiful. the trails, the foilage and the flowers in bloom are breathtaking.

A hillside park which has been lovingly developed over many years. Its plant collection is perhaps the most extensive in the state. There are rhododendrons there I have not seen anywhere else. The only garden that compares to this I have seen is the gardens at Broddick Castle on Mull in Scotland. We visited Hendricks in January and still found several plants blooming. There are a maze of trails covering two hillsides. The park is loved by both locals and visitors. You also get a good workout on the many trails.

There are dozens of different kinds of flowers, if you visit at the right time, everything is in bloom and it is so so beautiful! I highly recommend this place and it is wonderful for any occasion.
