An eclectic little gallery - lots of fun. It is kind of out of the way, but worth making your way to. I found my own Christmas present there.

I would rank the gallery higher if all the shows were consistently powerful. The January-February exhibit was astonishing and powerful. The current show is a bit bland except for the installation piece. However Maude Kerns does have some good resident artists and some blockbuster shows. And, frankly, I am just grateful for any visual art to be found in Eugene, a city which is appallingly thin on galleries and museums. Top notch artists live in the area but in many cases show and sell their works in other parts of the US and Europe.

We came across this while coming back from Hendricks park. Stopy by and see the displays if you're here. They had a fabulous Day of the Dead and wonderful stories about the people at each alter, including one of the original founders. Beautiful job ladies.

Maude Kerns is wonderful. Always something fascinating and interesting to see. I've spent many hours there while planning to look at something for a few minutes. Sort of like the University's Spam Museum.

We recently went here for the first time, as we visited the annual jello mold competition. It is located in a small vintage church, which makes a nice (though small) setting for checking out local art displays. They have a nice range of class options for kids, too.

The day of the dead show is my favorite. We go and see all of the beautiful artwork and usually buy a few small items that make us happy.

We enjoyed our visit to the Maude Kerns Art Center. We enjoyed viewing the art in the art galleries. While small, it was still a pleasurable visit. The staff there was friendly and helpful. it is free to visit. Donations are appreciated.
They do rotational exhibits as well as classes.
There is free parking on the street for 30 minutes to see the gallery.

This wonderful old church was converted to a fantastic art center, and it doubles as a music venue for many local and some famous musical groups (or solos). Worth the time to investigate what is happening there if you are in town!!

My 7 year old attended a week long art "camp" in the summer. It was apparent after day 1 that the staff did not know how to work with kids and thought kids were just mini-adults. The lead instructor pulled me aside to tell me that I should remind my child, "she needs to sit still during the day". They didn't given them breaks (all day class) and wanted them to sit still. All day, sit in one place. Let that sink in. We will not go back for art classes. My child shouldn't be ashamed of being a kid and doing typical kid things (like standing up while she paints). Regardless of if they were new staff, or hadn't worked with kids before, teaching children is joyful. Discovering and enjoying art with kids is an amazing job. Try actually enjoying kids too.
