This could be a nice place if the people were pleasant, the wines were reasonably priced, and the tables weren't so awkwardly placed, so unwelcoming in their layout.. The appetizers, too, are pretty outrageously priced and the portions are chintzy. What's more, the mode of service seems extraordinarily inefficient and slow; you need to keep popping up and walking over to the bar to order another drink, and then to pay and to receive your glass you wait a good five minutes (and more) standing at the bar. This happens with every transaction. There has been no table service when I have been there. Route 5 gives the impression of not knowing what it is about and of being so seriously understaffed that the workers are positively surly. Too bad. It's a great location and has the potential to be a great hangout. At this point, who wants to hang there?

Stayed at the hotel next door, glad that this was open *late* (not - it was only open until 9:30!) and had some lovely wine. 2 oz tastes available, which was nice - I could compare two similar wines without two whole glasses. Some nice looking nibbles. Check to make sure its open before going, since they're not open every day in the winter.

When a wine bar pouring local wines, located in an extremely well-placed location within a busy high-end shopping/dining area, next to a stylish boutique hotel is nearly empty at Happy Hour, on a Friday night, at Christmas time, that speaks volumes.
Unfortunately, I should have listened, but since I had some time to kill before meeting up with friends, I went in.
Here's what I got: an $8 "glass" of wine that amounted to a $3 pour; a sour, diffident attitude from the barman who was at great pains to respond to my queries or serve me at all; a deviled eggs small plate that anyone's granny would be ashamed to serve (tasteless, stiff filling) and a feeling that I was bothering the staff by taking up a seat in a nearly empty restaurant!
And what I didn't get: a warm, friendly haven with delicious food and a typically generous glass of wine (we are in The heart of Oregon wine country -- and in amiable, down-to-earth Eugene after all). Nor did I get the expected Eugene welcoming attitude. Rather, I received a strange, cold hauteur that has no place in this area and doesn't bring patrons in -- clearly.
Will I be back? Not likely.

We went to this location as we were staying in the attached hotel. After 9 days on the road and having eaten in everything from fine dining to family cafés we are pretty laid back with our expectations.
This experience started with many passes by staff but no request for drink orders. Finally we accomplished both our drink and food. Fairly simple order bowls of the daily soup and a flatbread.
Soup arrived.....barely warm but tasty. Looked for our soup spoon, nothing but we did have teaspoons so we dug in. Flatbread arrived in a drop and run. Tasty and hot so they do have the ability to serve hot good food. We did get a check in about 5 minutes later by what appeared to be the mgr but by this point we were past the point of pointing out our missing utensils.
We had our fill and waited with dirty dishes empty glasses and chilling food for about 10 minutes. We watched a waitress pass us by at least five times and all five employees share some laughs behind the bar. Very disappointing.
This location should be pulling in huge crowds. Good live music, open air and attached to a market and hotel. However we watched at least six couples walk up and walk away as there wasn't a staff member to capture them.
We are off to another city today and will remember to check tripadvisor before our next meal.

My husband and I dined here on my birthday to take advantage of the summer evening live music there, and the atmosphere and music were great! The wine selection and menu looked good too. We weren't sure we were going to have dinner, so we just ordered the grilled oysters on the half shell, a beer and what I thought would be an actual glass of wine. Their wine list/prices were a bit confusing, with three different sizes available: "splash" "glass" or "flask." I ordered a nice glass of white wine, but what I got was a wine glass with about two shots of wine in it. We clarified with the waitress, thinking this must be the "splash" but were told that this was indeed the "glass." I've never paid so much for so little. I was already splurging by buying a more expensive glass than usual, but when I saw how small the portion was, I honestly wouldn't have even been happy paying half the price for that amount. It would help if the menu stated how many ounces each portion is since, when people order a glass, they actually expect it to be at least half full, otherwise, it's just not really a glass. Or, if they want to serve such stingy portions, they might consider a smaller glass, so that their version of a glass really is one. Serving a tiny portion in a large wine glass is guaranteed to make people feel ripped off. So that was disappointing, and definitely prevented me from ordering any more wine. Then we got our oysters, which smelled and looked delicious, but they were not cooked enough. I'm spoiled by having an excellent cook for a husband and we both were surprised to be served oysters that were very soft and mushy, and had quite a fishy taste. If we'd ordered them raw, then of course that would be the case, but the menu said grilled and when we grill them at home, they are cooked all the way through (the less slimy the better for some of us!) and only taste like the butter and garlic they were cooked in - only the best flavors of the oyster coming through. Anyway, the theme of the restaurant, the atmosphere and the service were all just fine, but the misleading wine list/amount/prices and the undercooked oysters will prevent us from ever dining there again unless there is a change in these areas.

This place might have been good, but we'll never go back. To their credit, they seem to have a great list of wines by the glass and some interesting sounding menu items. However, the service was terrible, we seemed to bother them by showing up. The male waiter, who I believe worked there when it was LaValle, was as short and unfriendly as ever. The "wine queen" was some better but still rushed. As we waited and waited and looked around at the crowd, which was of the older, stodgier set,we decided it wasn't a good fit and headed around the corner to the Taproom instead. We enjoyed the louder, but livelier atmosphere with great local wines and brews and terrific food too!
