Best Waterfall Yet!
2020年12月
I was a little intimidated by the long gravel road to get there but it's totally doable and totally worth it! I've driven it in a Subaru and minivan and had no problems, road is well maintained. I parked about a mile from the trailhead because there was a downed tree - I could probably drive under it but didn't want to risk getting stuck (forgot my chain saw). I didn't hit snow/ice, but I did going up to Emile Shelter campground and had to turn around. The hike is short, about 0.33 miles one way, ground is secure/minimal rocks and roots, uphill most of the way there. It is really fun to go behind the falls! If you're adventurous, you can journey off trail above the falls, there's at least one more tier. Highly recommend.

Lots of Water this Spring
2020年6月
This is the first time I've hiked to Grotto Falls in the Spring and the loads of water make the Falls great. The road to the trailhead is still littered with downed trees from a year ago. And now potholes since the road can't be graded.

One of Douglas Counties Gems

Grotto Falls are really something special with a cave behind. It is a short hike but the trail is sometimes rocky and closer to the falls it is slippery. The drive up requires use of gravel roads. Know exactly where your headed before you depart as the signs are limited to one posted on the logging road. If you do go, please be respectful and remember to pack out what you take in to keep our wilderness clean.

Get behind these falls!
2012年11月 • 家庭
Grotto Falls are a one of the more well known waterfalls in the Umpqua area. The falls plunge 80 feet in two segments over a deeply undercut cliff within a dark recess which gives them their name. The short 0.5 km (0.3 mi) trail goes all the way behind the falls and it is amazing to see the water curtain fall in front of you and its roar echo in the caves behind you. We did this with our daughters (ages 6, 8 and 11) and everybody really enjoyed it and found it an easy hike.
