Delightful and dedicated local symphony Orchestra !

I moved to the Portland area several years ago and discovered this wonderful, enthusiastic local orchestra. I have not missed a concert ! Some lighthearted pieces, some in classic repertoire-always a nice mix. Children are welcome and seem to enjoy the performances as much as the adults do. Afterward cookies and apple cider in the gathering space and a chance to mingle with the musicians. I am green with envy at their musicianship while I practice away at my cello hoping one year to join them !

Fun Community Orchestra

I went my first HSO concert a few months ago. The night started out with a spotlight with an orchestra member featuring an instrument. I found out from the woman sitting next to me that this was a regular occurrence and they switched who they featured every concert. The music theme was French music and had a good selection of stuff I recognized and some I didn't. The emcee was enthusiastic and the orchestra played well. They aren't the Oregon Symphony, but well worth the cheap admission ($8 for adults, discounts for seniors and kids).

There were a lot of seniors there and some young families. Everyone enjoyed themselves and there was free cookies and juice after the performance. A fun idea for families who want to take their kids to music without spending a lot and a good date idea.

so much for loyalty

for ten years of my life I was their PRINCIPAL OBOE, and I expressed dismay about how badly the StRING section sounded; along with the arrival of another oboe player who wanted my job and LIED to get it, it meant that ten years of my life in diligent service with those people was gone in less time than it took to make a phone call to tell me I was fired ... so much for ethics &\or loyalty = save your money, dont bother going to hear them
