Great hike! Parallels the highway at the very start but you soon veer off and leave the road noise behind. Trail does climb above the creek in many spots but you also spend a good bit of time at creek level- best of both viewing worlds. Trail mostly easy but almost to the falls there is a large slide that appears to have taken out the normal path. Goes to moderate + at this point as you are picking a path upwards among the large stones. Once thru this the falls come into view. High sheer wall to the right really enhances the falls. Great hike!

We were camping at the nearby Sherwood Forest Campgrounds so we walked over to take a late afternoon hike. We saw the falls hike listed on the trailhead map as 1 Mile each direction so we headed out. The trail and hike started fairly easy but had areas with lots of rocks and unleveled trail which could be more difficult for some. You could see the Hood River alongside the trail and there were small falls and lots of rushing rapids along the way. We saw a sign in about 1/2 mile that showed the falls another 1 1/2 miles in (making the hike one way 2 miles). We were limited on time and knew that we couldn’t complete the 4 mile in and out hike, but were enjoying the views so we decided to continue a ways. We walked in about 1 1/2 total miles (took about 45 leisurely minutes) and didn’t get to the big falls but had to turn around and hike back. We got plenty of great pictures and enjoyed the hike and views but were disappointed that the trailhead map had shown 1 mile each way when it is actually 2 miles each way. Beautiful hike but plan about 1 1/2-2 hours to reach the falls and hike back.

We hiked this with our family and it was well worth the work of the hike. The trail was a challenge for the older ones because of the rocky terrain and some of the uphill climbs, but definitely worth the work to reach the falls. They are powerful, huge, and beautiful!

This is a moderate hike. It follows the river for almost the entire hike and most is in the shade. The hike is 2 miles in and 2 miles out. The trail is well maintained and on my hike I came across people of all ages, and many with young children and/or dogs. The hike is almost entirely uphill to the falls and there is an area near the falls which involves traveling through a rock slide. Lots of opportunities to twist an ankle so need to pay attention. The falls are very nice and rather unique with a very large mist that at times obscures the view of the falls. Bring water. A nice place to have a picnic lunch. Parking is limited. We were here on a Friday mid May and the lot filled up pretty early. Not sure what people do if the lot is full as no overflow parking seen but there is a campground not too far away. I was not in the shape I thought I was and took me 1.5 hours to the falls and 1 hour back. Definitely worth it!

This is quite a scenic hike through the Mt Hood National Forest. I'd classify the hike as moderate - while the elevation gain is steady for most of the section of the trail, there was one place in particular where there was a slightly steeper climb up some rocks. Quite do-able, even for an occasional hiker, I promise! I think the round trip hike ended up around 4 miles. Most parts of the trail is shady, which definitely helps in summer months. The trail is quite scenic, with a meandering stram flowing along the path at a lot of places. Finding parking might be turn out to be challenging, especially on weekends because there are only limited spots at the trailhead. There is a $5 fee per vehicle, which can be paid online as well but the cellular reception at the trailhead was non-existent for me, so I'd recommend pre-paying it earlier.
The falls are located at the culmination of the trail and are beautiful! It is a refreshing site to be greeted to at the end of a hike. While the falls itself are not huge, it is tall and the hike takes you to possibly the best vantage point from which to view the falling waters. The constant presence of a stream along the hike added a soothing effect, making the hiking effort seem a bit less tiring! The drive to Tamanawas Falls from Hood River along Highway 35 is quite scenic as well and is something I'd classify as an added bonus if you decide to make this trip!

This is definitely not a 3.5m hike. It is closer to 4.75m from the parking lot at the trailhead. Go early. It is a 2hour drive from Portland and if you reach before 10am on weekdays you may find parking. I wouldn't classify it as an easy hike. It is more in the moderate realm. There is quite a bit of narrow rocky paths where you need ro watch out and cannot breeze along. DO take a hiking pole.. it helped us so much! The trail is shady for atleast 80% of the way which was great. The waterfall at the end of it all was well worth the effort. There are miniature falls on the trail which made it quite fun. It can get dusty when lots of people are kicking up dry sand on the path, but covid masks were so very helpful here! People were respectful of distances, and very mindful.

a beautiful hike, start early during covid as the trail can get very popular as the day goes on. The trail is wide in some places and then extremely narrow in others with many rocks to cross over. It is considered an easy trail, approx. 3 miles.

There is parking at the trail head off of hwy. 35 but will get crowded later in the morning during summer time.

lots of shade and a beautiful river and water falls.

These falls were absolutely gorgeous in the winter. The trail was fairly easy in terms of length and elevation but if going during the winter you’ll definitely need some boots that are good in the snow/on ice.

Beautiful trail. We snowshoed this trail to the Falls & back to the parking area. Micro spikes or snowshoes were definitely a necessity for safety. Great adventure with friends!
