We enjoyed our visit to this small history museum in Hood River. Concise, well-presented local information. The Luhr Jensen exhibit was very interesting.

I had an afternoon to spend with my granddaughter and we checked out the History Museum. It was immediately fun because they had a scavenger hunt for kids. A wonderful way to work your way around. The exhibits were very appropriate for the local area. At the end, they had a fun place for kids to put "hands on" things they might have not experienced. My 7 year old typed on a typewriter, played "dress up" played checkers, and worked on a loom (which she really enjoyed). They had modern kite sailing exhibits and information. Its a small place, worthy of about an hour to an hour and a half. Admission was $5.00 for adults and free for kids

If you are here anyway, go through. You do get a good feel for the first settlers. The best part of this museum is the lovely park tucked away behind it. You wouldn't notice the park unless you came to the museum. It is quiet, on the river, with nice spots to picnic.

This museum is very well-curated and exhibited, with the largest display being about the Columbia River highway (excellent history, video, drawings, and a Model T car!). Another thought-provoking section concerns the local Japanese population and history, with a related display on current immigration issues.

We visited the museum in April with our two boys after checking out of the hotel next door. We were not too sure what to expect but the hotel staff had recommended we visited. We were pleasantly surprised by the collections in the museum, many of which were donated by local people. As we were visiting from England, I had no idea there was so much history in the area particularly the influence of Japanese and native American people. There was also an exhibition about the recent forest fires. The lady who managed the museum was fantastic with the children as they searched the museum for answers to the quiz sheets they were given which resulted in a prize at the end. There were also some play areas for them. At the end of our visit we were lucky enough to see an exhibit which was due to be put on display, this was a real treat. I would definitely recommend a visit to the museum if you're in the area. it's well worth your time.

My husband and I crossed the bridge into Oregon and I spotted a sign for 'History Museum' and as we love museums, we stopped in. We were warmly greeted and were given the layout of this beautiful little museum on local history. The Luhr Jensen exhibit is first rate and very complete. We also happened to be there when they had an exhibit of wedding gowns from the past with several very old gowns donated by local families. So many great exhibits on agriculture in the area, the Japanese influence and the internment during WWII, how windsurfing came to be so popular in the area and so much more. I wish our teenage kids had been with us as they would have found many things of interest, too. Well worth the visit!

I really wanted to rate this place higher, especially since the staff was so nice to let us in at 3:50, ten minutes before close, but the truth is that there isn't a whole lot here. I think we were through the whole exhibit in about a half hour, including watching the videos in the Luhr exhibit (which my husband thought was worth the $5 admission). There is a nice exhibit of pianos and a pianola upstairs.

Very little substance. Not much in the way of local exhibits of artifacts to compliment the history of the area. Might want to go else where.

The lady that volunteered told us a lot about the exhibit which made it very enjoyable. I don't think we would have got as much out of it otherwise. All in all worth stopping by.
