These folks are pretty laid back. I enjoyed that the staff didn’t follow me around all the time! Nice bikes! The Trainer (RN)* Personal Trainer, “One On One Only”

We hired two hybrids that were matched and adjusted perfectly to our sizes. The bikes were in excellent condition - brakes good, chain and gears very smooth. They hire out for 24 hours but on account of their 10 am opening time and our morning departure we had to return them within 6 hours. No refund for unspent hours.
Warning! We were told not to worry about taking a puncture repair kit as the fatter hybrid tyres 'never puncture'. Despite us knowing that this is a ridiculous claim, we went without the repair kit as the shop staff said they'd bring one to us in the rare event anything went wrong. Sounded like a good service. Sure enough, we got a puncture whilst on the Old Columbia Highway. They were helpful when we rang and brought out a repair kit straight away but as the roadway there is car free, I had to cycle to the entrance, get the repair kit ( which came with one only tyre lever) then ride back to where my husband was with the flat tyre. One lever isn't enough, but Luckily some nice cyclists came to the rescue with extra levers and we were on our way. It delayed us by one hour.
So insist on the repair kit and check the number of tyre levers.
When we returned the bike to Discover Bicycles, they said that that is their standard practice not to provide them. That is unsatisfactory.
The cycling and bike quality was great, but on account of no apology and no discount, I would probably not hire from here again.

My wife and I finished a 6 day trail ride around Mt. Hood, and after 220 miles of riding in dry, sandy, wet, muddy conditions, our bikes needed some TLC before we headed to Bend for some more trail. We rolled back into Hood River and stopped here to see if they had time for two quick "clean up" tunes. Chris asked for about two hours to get them taken care of, so I gave him a phone number and we left to get some lunch. It only took 45 minutes for my phone to ring, and Chris said both were ready to go. They gave each a decent cleaning, lubed both, and trued my back wheel. Thank you! I promise we gave both bikes a good beating again once we got over to Bend the next day!

If you want to walk in and be treated like an adult every time you need something for any bike, go see the guys at Discovery Bikes. They know what they're talking about and will serve you at whatever level you think you may be on two wheels!

Just had a thoroughly positive experience with two bike rentals. Bikes well prepped and in perfect condition. Well-priced rentals and good advice on local rides. Very complete shop with tons of accessories, clothing, guide books and other useful items. OUR recommendation is the historic highway. Only runs for about 10 mile or so out and back (from Hatifield to Hatfield trail heads), but pleasant climbs, champagne pavement and gorgeous scenery. Easy trek from the shop.

We went to Hood River for lunch and ended up renting bikes for a 12 mile bike ride. We weren't sure if this was really what we wanted to do, but the people at Discover Bicycles were so nice and positive we got "sucked in!" It wasn't a mistake. Following their directions, we headed east out of Hood River to the Mark O. Hatfield West Trail on bikes better than the ones we ride at home. The 4.9 mile trail gently follows the gorge, taking the rider by some waterfalls, through a couple of tunnels, and all the time giving vistas of the Columbia River. We also had a nice view of snow covered Mount Adams to the north. The trail ends at Mosier and we rode the .7 miles into the small (population: 400) town to see about some refreshment. Nothing was open since we chose a Monday for our adventure, but there were several charming storefronts that looked like they would be worth stopping for when they are open.
This would be a great family and/or picnic trek. There were several places with tables along the trail with spectacular views of the gorge as the backdrop.
The people at Discover Bicycles were courteous, provided us with well-fitted bikes, and kindly reminisced with us at the end of our adventure.
