Loved the fish hatchery
2019年6月
What a great place to take the kids in the summer. Walk along the rearing ponds and buy fish food there to feed the big fish.

A must stop
2019年7月
This is an almost hidden gem in our county. It's always quiet, always clean, and always fun for everyone. Bring a quarter so you can feed the escapees off their dock.

Children and (parents) can love a fish hatchery!
2019年7月
I agree with the other review about the sign on the hwy. It is a bit difficult to see. After finding the hatchery though, found it to be delightful. The staff was courteous and helpful! Our children ages 8 to 12 loved it and loved feeding the fish. Yes it does cost and they do have a change machine. We were able to get helpful information for other places to go and fish from the staff there and very much enjoyed our time at the hatchery. Would recommend this as a place to add to the list of things to do in Klamath Falls Oregon!

Very interesting and educational

We visited the hatchery on a Sunday when no workers were there, but we wandered the site and saw the fingerlings in many different locations. We're glad we stopped.

Small hatchery
2019年6月 • 夫妻情侣
The sign on highway 62 needs to be larger. I missed it several times. The road leading to the hatchery is narrow, and there are some blind curves, Fortunately, it is a short drive,

The hatchery has some rectangular ponds and one stream with large numbers of fish.

Admission is free.

Who doesn't love a fish hatchery
2018年4月 • 家庭
Bring your quarters, or they do have a change machine, and get ready to feed the trout. We have stopped at many a hatchery and this one was perfectly fine. You see trout from the smallest to those that look like they are just the right size for dinner! There is a picnic table and restroom. This hatchery is very easy to get to, just a half mile off the 62, on your way to or from Crater Lake.

Watch for the Dipper Bird!
2017年10月 • 夫妻情侣
What a beautiful drive to the Klamath State Fish Hatchery! Definitely worth a stop (on the road to Crater Lake). It’s less than a 10-minute detour from Route 62, on a one-lane gravel road, passing radiant golden aspens amid Ponderosa Pines, & the stunningly coiled Crooked Creek (to your left).

Parking is free at the Hatchery, with a pit restroom nearby. Dogs on leashes are allowed. An informational kiosk highlights the fish, & gives a brief history, along with map of the Hatchery area. Amazingly over 3 million fish are produced each year, with legal & trophy-sized trout released in Klamath & Lake Counties in Oregon.

Be sure to check out the viewing deck overlooking Crooked Creek - with wild trout swimming below; & peek into the rearing ponds where hundreds of hungry fish will readily accept special food you can throw to them (purchased for 25 cents from outside feeding stations).

You’ll see larger trout in the back rearing ponds – a pretty walk under magnificent willow trees. On sunny days you may see the bright orange “California Tortoiseshell” butterfly sunning on the ground. Interestingly this butterfly overwinters as an adult, & flies again in spring.

If you stroll over to the creek, be sure to watch for a little gray bird (with short stubby tail) bobbing on a stump by the water, or even swimming underwater. It’s the Dipper bird – “North America’s only truly aquatic songbird” – which catches all its food by “flying” underwater!

Notably this Hatchery is a birding hotspot (Site #10) on the “Klamath Basin Birding Trail.” We heard Steller’s Jays, & even saw a Bald Eagle perched on the ridgeline, in an open snag tree, above the parking lot.

Fall is a nice time to visit! Check the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) website for more information.

Crystal clear water
2017年7月 • 好友
Our family loves this fish hatchery. Located at the headwaters of the Wood River with some of the purest water around. The large trout are fun to feed along the river (there are automated fish food dispensers for a quarter per serving). The hatchery workers are friendly and helpful and happy to answer questions.

Nice picnic area near the "show fish".
2017年8月 • 夫妻情侣
We always stop at these places. Perfect timing for lunch. We brought our lunch so took advantage of the picnic tables next to fish tanks. Uninvited pest - mosquitoes. Interest fish hatchery - not alot of fish were there when we stopped. Would be nice if they had information brochure or placards.

Most beautiful Hatchery I have been to.
2017年7月 • 独自旅游
Visited this with family and the site is quite beautiful. Go straight to the show pond (oh but first put some quarters in the fish food machine) where the whoppers are living! These trout are HUGE!
Then walk around the beautiful grounds to view the mid size and smaller trout. There is crystal clear water everywhere and what is surprising is that it flows right out of the base of the mountain in many springs! The kids will love this place. Make sure you walk over and check out the bat houses and see them inside kind of sleeping and kind of not. At the end walk out to the end deck overlooking the creek and see several very large (at least ten pounds) trout just cruising around in the hole there. A must see for any family!
