just a short walk to the beach. Clean facilities, stay in the upper section if you need cell service, but we preferred the section closer to the beach. Good location for going to Bandon or Gold Beach.

About 1/2 RV vs camping sites so very family friendly. We're Verizon and there was no cell service until you walk out to the beach. The trail is short, level, deep sand with one rocky stepdown that can be a problem for gimpy people like me. The trail goes along Brush Creek, which offers its own swimming holes, and under the 101 bridge. A ped bridge will take you over creek, under highway, to Humbug Trail. I've done that before and not repeating. There is a paved trail going up behind the campground... we never ran into a soul, what a shame. Garbage cans in multiple locations. We're self-contained so did not use bathroom or showers. Spaces meet minimum room and not private. I've been to many campgrounds that campers think nothing of walking thru your site if it's a shortcut to the bathrooms and this was no exception. I would never dream of walking thru someone's space! Staff comes around in golf carts selling firewood. Ranger very visible. Lots of stellar jays, robins, cliff swallows under the bridge, and chipmunks.

The hike up the mountain is gorgeous and takes you through zone after zone of trees and plants, many in bloom in May. It's a loop and about 3 miles to the top with quite a bit of elevation gain. Some earlier reviews say there's no view from the top, but I guess powers that be at the state park system took those negative reviews to heart and cut down a bunch of trees and kind of laid waste to the peak. On the plus side, the views are great now and they used some of the wood to build benches. On the other hand, I don't know why the trail guide promotes the hike to day use area from the campground. The trail is narrower, there was less diversity in the plant life there, and the day use area is a meadow, not on the ocean. Then you have to hike back. I didn't see anyone else there, though. The short hike up to the Coast Trail and along the Fern Trail are nice if you just want to get out for a bit. Watch out for poison oak and ticks. The short walk to the shore is always worth it at any time of day. Campground is quiet and well-maintained, but all sites are within hearing (and some in sight) of 101. The ranger noted that the A loop gets hot in summer while the winds in the larger campground are welcome on a hot day.

This park is a super well maintained with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The park offers showers, power and water hookups and a very friendly group of people caring for the huge area. If you stay at the south end of the park the wind can be a bit overwhelming at times, but you’ll soon get over that, as the park itself is awesome.

I’d heard of this mountain and park from friends in the area who plant redwoods. The views of the sea from here, north and south are mystical. trees are dense and beautiful. Great campground with large sites.

We were tent camping and the sites were not very private. But, our site was comfortable and a short walk to the beach. The best part for us was the creek that crossed the beach to run into the ocean. We had children ages 3-11 in our group. They had a marvelous time playing in that water which required much less adult vigilance than ocean play.

A mountain that literally ends in the Pacific Ocean.
Right when we reached Humbug Mountain on our Southern Oregon Coast road trip it was absolutely covered in fog, clouds and with rain mixing in at times.
I told DH to turn in and check out Humbug Mountain and before I knew it he's just driving us up the mountain, which by the way becomes a little scary at times as you keep getting higher and we were hoping we might find a cloud break higher up but no, we ended up just turning around at the top and going back down, we only saw one other car. The clouds were thick.
Wish we'd have been able to see the gorgeous views, but the mountain in the weather was very breathtaking in an ominous and mysterious way.
The rain was hammering us a lot too.
Sisters Rock State park is just south of Humbug Mountain and you should definitely check it out because its beautiful, but always remember to be respectful of nature.
Since we went right after a big rain the long reeds were soaking wet and drenched our legs from the waist down on the trail. Lots of incredible Sea stacks around this area.
Both these state parks are great and worth a stop.

Norm, Cheryl and Oscar are great camp hosts. The park is great. The sites are big and kept up. The state park staff keeps the facilities in perfect condition. All types of wildlife to view and it was extremely peaceful.

We were able to get one night here on our way north up the coast. Wish we could have stayed longer. Level RV site with water and power for $24.00. No wifi and poor cell service, but great cell service when you walked out to the beach. Park is set up in two section, first part is away from the highway, but a bit of a walk to the beach. We stayed in the part close to the highway (not that noisy), closer to the ocean. Clean Bathrooms, nice Park hosts.

Yes, school groups could easily hike from the B loop camping area under the Highway 101 bridge out to the shore. Even at high tide, there is plenty of beach and plenty of driftwood up high above the waves.
As in all Oregon beaches, there are warnings about sneaker waves. Also, even on a warm day, the wind off the ocean can be very, very cool.
There is also a well marked trail going up Humbug mountain to the summit as well as a mountain hike up behind the "A" loop campground. The "A" loop hike is up an old paved road that is usually locked but open to bike traffic. Probably about a mile up the paved road is a picnic table that overlooks the highway 101 bridge. This trail heads north toward town along highway 101. It is of course several miles long.
Both mountain trails have steep drop offs and with young children, it could be very dangerous. Humbug mountain trail is 3 miles long as I recall.
