Take the hike up the mountain and enjoy the plants
2021年5月
The hike up the mountain is gorgeous and takes you through zone after zone of trees and plants, many in bloom in May. It's a loop and about 3 miles to the top with quite a bit of elevation gain. Some earlier reviews say there's no view from the top, but I guess powers that be at the state park system took those negative reviews to heart and cut down a bunch of trees and kind of laid waste to the peak. On the plus side, the views are great now and they used some of the wood to build benches. On the other hand, I don't know why the trail guide promotes the hike to day use area from the campground. The trail is narrower, there was less diversity in the plant life there, and the day use area is a meadow, not on the ocean. Then you have to hike back. I didn't see anyone else there, though. The short hike up to the Coast Trail and along the Fern Trail are nice if you just want to get out for a bit. Watch out for poison oak and ticks. The short walk to the shore is always worth it at any time of day. Campground is quiet and well-maintained, but all sites are within hearing (and some in sight) of 101. The ranger noted that the A loop gets hot in summer while the winds in the larger campground are welcome on a hot day.

Awesome view, kinda windy!

This park is a super well maintained with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The park offers showers, power and water hookups and a very friendly group of people caring for the huge area. If you stay at the south end of the park the wind can be a bit overwhelming at times, but you’ll soon get over that, as the park itself is awesome.

Mystical Mountain

I’d heard of this mountain and park from friends in the area who plant redwoods. The views of the sea from here, north and south are mystical. trees are dense and beautiful. Great campground with large sites.

Great for kids
2019年8月
We were tent camping and the sites were not very private. But, our site was comfortable and a short walk to the beach. The best part for us was the creek that crossed the beach to run into the ocean. We had children ages 3-11 in our group. They had a marvelous time playing in that water which required much less adult vigilance than ocean play.

Crazy on a stormy rainy cloudy day!
2019年5月
A mountain that literally ends in the Pacific Ocean.
Right when we reached Humbug Mountain on our Southern Oregon Coast road trip it was absolutely covered in fog, clouds and with rain mixing in at times.
I told DH to turn in and check out Humbug Mountain and before I knew it he's just driving us up the mountain, which by the way becomes a little scary at times as you keep getting higher and we were hoping we might find a cloud break higher up but no, we ended up just turning around at the top and going back down, we only saw one other car. The clouds were thick.
Wish we'd have been able to see the gorgeous views, but the mountain in the weather was very breathtaking in an ominous and mysterious way.
The rain was hammering us a lot too.
Sisters Rock State park is just south of Humbug Mountain and you should definitely check it out because its beautiful, but always remember to be respectful of nature.
Since we went right after a big rain the long reeds were soaking wet and drenched our legs from the waist down on the trail. Lots of incredible Sea stacks around this area.
Both these state parks are great and worth a stop.

Norm, Cheryl and Oscar are great camp hosts. The park is great. The sites are big and kept up. The state park staff keeps the facilities in perfect condition. All types of wildlife to view and it was extremely peaceful.

Quick walk to the ocean
2019年6月 • 夫妻情侣
We were able to get one night here on our way north up the coast. Wish we could have stayed longer. Level RV site with water and power for $24.00. No wifi and poor cell service, but great cell service when you walked out to the beach. Park is set up in two section, first part is away from the highway, but a bit of a walk to the beach. We stayed in the part close to the highway (not that noisy), closer to the ocean. Clean Bathrooms, nice Park hosts.

Great Family and Dog Friendly Camp Site
2019年7月 • 家庭
I stayed at this campsite for 4 nights in 2 tent sites, 2 families total including 5 young children age 2 to 8. The sites are well maintained, with good quality roads (in case you have kids learning to bike!), clean bathrooms, hot showers and friendly park rangers. Not many mosquitos, though some do come out at sunset. It was safe, and we let our 5 and 8 year old bike around the campsites. There is onsite wood and ice for purchase from the camp hosts. All 4 nights, campers were respectful of quiet hours.

The best sites in my opinion, are those in the loop closest to the beach, and furthest from the highway: 52,53,54,55,56,65,66,67,68. We stayed in 28 and 29, which I don't recommend because they are furthest from the bathrooms, and relatively close to the 101. The noise from the freeway can be loud and bothered me the first night, but then I got used to it and didn't notice it any more.

Dogs are welcome as long as they stay on leash. At the info board there are doggie waste bags and brochures about nearby dog friendly off and on leash beaches and parks. The beach accessible from the campsite is an on-leash area.

This is a great camp spot for access to the Oregon coast. We explored the town of Port Orford, which is about 10 minutes away. There's a Ray's supermarket and a handful of little eateries. Also a small playground. I recommend Port Orford Heads State Park for kid-friendly (flat) trails and views. For tide pooling, head north on the 101 for about 5 minutes and there is an unmarked gravel road to the west which leads down to a small parking lot and access to rocky shore. Excellent tide pooling and driftwood sifting here. 30 minutes north there is blueberry picking in the summer, in the town of Langlois.

Awesome challenge to the top!

This trail is at an incline for the whole three miles, no breaks! Once you get to the top, be ready for some amazing views of the coastline.
